Have read lots of comments about seat bumping by VS or its wonderful systems, and wondered why it had never happened to me ... then I return from IAD on Sunday to find, upon check-in, that we'd been bumped from our selected seats, and then for my next trip to Delhi, see that now I have no seat allocation.

Ho hum, more VS IT hockus pokery I suppose v( .

It's happened to me 3 times in 2 years. Always in PE with family. Have been separated from wife and kids causing much angst.
This summer happened on way to and back from New York - way out was because of switch from 747 to airbus (PE cabin was in uproar as many families split up).
I wrote to complain but only received email reply after a few weeks.
Was told that a new booking system was to be introduced which would reduce chances of happening in future but not convinced.

Just hapenned to me too.

Had 17A outbound to DEL on 12 Nov and 2K for return. Just logged in to find no seat reservation for return and 2K (my favorite seat) gone and had to go for 3K. Outbound seat was preserved.

Did call reservations last week who accessed my booking to look at possible cahnges which I didn't in fact make- could this be a factor?

Is there a top tier (I am Au) or VVIP system which enables bumping?

It doesn't just happen when other people have been allocated the seats either. On my last flight back from St Lucia we were bumped from our selected seats 79A and C and given 79H and K instead. No one had been given the other seats so we moved over to them after take off.

Just tried to check again but the VS Web site seems to be having a tizzy, and it's lost my booking! Doh, it's just awful and how such a business can rely on something so poor is beyond me!

Oh and by the way, I only had someone bumped once, ever, and that was inadvertently!

Slinky don't worry; the 2K was the return on 26th. still have my outbound on the A side unless things have changed since I checked

Mr DL and I were turfed out of our selected seats 2 and 3K prior to our flight on Monday (no idea why as no change to aircraft or flight time) but all the seats were available to re- select. Luckily I check my reservations almost neurotically and was able to put us back into 3 and 4 K (my preferred seats ). The chap and his wife who were in 4 and 5 K before the gremlins attacked had a real go at Mr DL (and also the onboard crew) for "taking" one of "their" seats and trying to get Mr DL to move (fat chance ). I think he had some kind of conscience as he did however come and apologise for his wife's seat rage behaviour later as she was ultra rude v( .

Is the difference between 3&4 and 5&6 that great? Amazing what people will get that upset about.

She'd been re- located into 5D (which is where she wanted Mr DL to move to) with him remaining in 5K ): . She then badgered the chap in 4D into swopping with her husband (and as a single traveller he was more than happy to do so).

Perhaps they were confused and thought that VS offer a timeshare? LOL ?| ?|

I've just written to Virgin about this. Many weeks prior to our trip to Orlando, we got our seats allocated (for both outward and return legs) in Row 56 of the A330-343X. On arrival at Glasgow we were offered the option to move out of Row 56 by paying for extra legroom. We checked in at Downtown Disney for the return. We were bumped into another row - no great problem, but I mentioned we already had seats allocated in Row 56. We were told these were extra legroom seats and we could pay and get that row, or move. This was the same aircraft (Beauty Queen). On the face of it, Virgin moved the seat pitch on Row 56 between October 8 and 22 or someone is at it!

rows 51-56 AC & HK are extra legroom seats, £30 extra

We were in 56 D,E,F and G
