Very sad return to Los Angeles

I fly LHR - LAX on VS7 this Tuesday.

I am returning for the funeral and as the executor to a very, very close friend who has just died from lung cancer.

My adopted Grandpa was 82 and had smoked for years - as an appeal to those who smoke please consider giving up for your family...

I left him at the beginning of the month to return to work knowing I was unlikely to ever see him again. That was the hardest flight I have ever made.

Anyone at LHR T3 that wants to join me for a drink in his memory on Tuesday I'd be glad of the company.

PW aka Shaun

Sad news. But it is nice your adopted Grandpa had the trust to ask you to be an executor.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss - and you're absolutely right about the effects of smoking. I've seen it first hand, so I completely know where you're coming from.

However, I'm sure you'll cherish the fact that you were able to see him before he passed away, and you were extremely close to him. People die, but memories don't.

I wish you a safe journey to LA on Tuesday.

Best Regards,
GB

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Even though we all know none of us live forever, that never makes it any easier to lose someone. Be safe...

Mate I share your feelings. My grandpa passed away when I was a little kid, and he was my fav guy in this whole wide world. But if you r flying out on the 7 tomorrow I'm in the clubhouse until half 8 in the morning, come on in and have a drink with me.

Give your full name and I'll Put you down as my guest.

Unfortunately I didn't manage to take Jimmyc84 up on his kind offer so decided to try the No1 lounge...

What a mistake! My idea of a lounge is quiet and relaxed - this is anything but... maybe I am wrong but allowing children to run around screaming while the parents shout at them, talking loudly on your cellphone is imho disrespectful to the other guests.

Also a lot of the things that they 'sell' it on are charged extra to the entrance fee of £30.

PW.

Sealink?! That name is a blast from the past! Used to watch the Newhaven to Dieppe Sealink ferries regularly as a kid :)

Travelled on them a few time on day trips too. The Senlac Villandy, Villancay (?sp)seem to spring tomind.

Hey pilot wolf I didn't get in the clubhouse until half 8 as I overslept this morning and had to spring across half of west London.

Didn't see your message until I was in heathrow express, so emailed u straight back- but I didn't get a response before I left. I wanted to leave pilot wolf with the reception but they said I needed to have your name on your ticket... So no can do unfortunately.

Apologies. Will hook u up next time for sure
