Hello all,

My wife and I want/need a holiday, we have a 1 month old and are looking to travel in February for (up to) a weeks break. We plan on travelling UC (ideally from LHR) and with my (then 4 month) old... any ideas on a decent destination?

I was thinking of Dubai, warm weather, not too far, decent hotel we can stay in. Does anyone have any advice, I know people who travel and will see a baby will shudder, but he is well behaved and we are responsible and I guarantee I have travelled with worse adults than babies.

A few questions-
1.Does it have to be overseas ?
2.Does it have to be a VS destination?
As well behaved as your son may be, air pressure can cause real problems for babes (although for some like Dragonbaby it was no problem at all - teething time on board was another matter though :0 ).
Little one might find Dubai just a bit too hot but the night flight might be a good idea.
I'm not sure if you've previous experience of travelling with a small one - it can be a bit of a military expedition. Be prepared for the glarers (who don't think babes should be anywhere near a premium cabin).

Not having any little ones (Tonty and Beary don't count in this respect!) I can't really give you any advice but would just ask would it be fair on your new baby with the changes in time zones / cabin pressure changes / heat in Dubai etc

A quick word with your health visitor might be helpful.

As for the 'glarers' ignore them. As long as you are seen to be trying to calm your baby if he/she starts crying etc then most UC pax will be understanding.

Other option is for you both to go on holiday and see if Grandparents want to babysit.

We took Tizer to New York at 4 months (in January - bleeding freezing), Barbados at 7 months, LAX at 1 year. Of course, not all children are the same, but she didn't seem to give two hoots where she was, as long as she was fed and changed at regular intervals.

Yes, you'll get the glarers, but commit yourself to doing all you can to limit the impact your little one has on their travel experience and fly with a clear conscience. As for destination, I'd suggest nowhere massively hot for the sake of a 4 month old; factor in a little research on baby-sitters, perhaps, but other than that, jr. won't care less where he/she is.

As a traveller with no children, all I like to see is a parent trying to assist/deal with/placate/help their child through the stresses of air travel. If you do ou will have the support and respect of most pax y) Of course there are still some pax that just dont get it v( but that's not your problem, it theirs . Dubai is great, btw

Best advise, go and go again..it only gets more complicated as they get bigger...

Mini NH's trip to CPT at 8 wks, pram offloading on top of table mountain etc etc was no bother, she's been literally all round the world prior to aged 4, in all cabins.

Remember, they spend so much of their time, either sleeping, grinning, or pooing, and easily transportable in a pram. Pram goes to the gate, you can take a car seat, cheap packable sterilisers are available and now you can generally get milk/ food products globally (except Italy.. ?| where we struggled.. ). Onboard, CC are great, lots of brooding :w , in terms of "tuts" and glares, just ignore, these occasionally happen, and 9 times out of 10, from pax with expensed tickets, or those who believe women are in the work place to make tea..

Destination wise, IMHO, go where you want to go.. it will only become more of a logistical challenge as they grow older. I'd only go to Dubai if you were wanting to go there anyhow, not just for babies sake. States is an easy option, but you'll also find asia and africa equally accommodating especially with babies at that age...
