VS 24 was over 5 hours delayed departing last night with some of my family members on the flight.

Is there any formal compensation that they should get from VS for this delay?

Thanks

See attached link, depends on the circumstances - best bet is to check any travel insurance cover.

Off topic - Does anyone know Why is there isnt a Gatwick -Vegas flight operating today?

From that is looks like each passenger should get 600 euros each for the LAX -> LHR flight delayed over 5 hours.

Is this correct? Has anyone claimed it before?

Thanks

My reading of EU 261/2004 is that there is no compensation payable for delays other than (depending on flight destination and length of delay) 'refreshments' so a snack/ light meal plus 'communication' so a couple of phone calls or emails.

After a 5 hour delay you should be offered the chance to cancel the flight and get a refund

However no compensation is payable though there have been court appeals to challenge this but with no result yet. Even then it would be down to what caused the delay and if it was under the control of the airline.

The whole issue of monetary for flight delays is pending an ECJ judgement.

Don't hold your breathe.

That's a shame, it would have made their detail much more palatable.

Second time in a week that that particular aircraft has been delayed leaving LAX ?
