Looks to be a good deal - you can also convert your current Clubcard vouchers at a rate of 625 miles for every £2.50 voucher. y) y)

According to my calculations, that is 25,000 points for £100 worth of vouchers - that is a VERY good return IMHO.

Great news!

I was converting the clubcard vouchers in to BA Avios because I couldn't think of anything else useful to do with them that would get me a good return.

That's a game changer for me!

And if you choose the easiest way of earning miles, Auto Opt in before 29 February 2012, you’ll add an extra 1,000 miles† to your total. Better get packing!

Triple Points on Tesco Mobile too... till end of Feb 2012

So, being my normal thick self here, if you set it up to convert to Flying Club miles, would that keep your current Virgin flight miles from expiring?

I should imagine so. It only needs a transaction (of any type) to keep resetting the 3-year expiry.

Yes as this would be classed as an earning activity in your FC account. :D

Just a heads up to everyone who wants to register online :-

Two things - they are currently experiencing a high volume of activity on the website, which is causing some glitches.

Also, currently there is no option to add your FC number when registering online :0 - Sue has just registered us, and had to ring to get her FC number linked to the Tesco Clubcard account. Whilst this was quite a painless process, it does seem like another IT triumph - not! v( n(

Just back from Tesco. Spent near £200 and had a double points voucher. So 400 points. Guess where these are now going. Yep I think that is about 1000 miles.

Excellent news!

Been hoping that Nectar would do something similar (either BA or preferably Virgin) so I can get both schemes filling up my FC account!!

Hmm, now this is a tough one for me, as I've got a ton of CC vouchers that were being saved up for February when there is a special 'double Avios miles' redemption period. I'm left cursing VS again for their lack of short haul (within Europe) flight options...

On balance I think Avios will win out because under the old airmiles scheme we saved a fortune each year for the annual family jaunts to France, Italy etc. Although will be taking a serious punt on the continued availability of flights to Rome, Milan, Nice etc during the school hols, as we've always managed to get them in the past.

The chances of the Nectar scheme actually providing some form of usable reward...other than a quid off a pizza hut experience or other such tripe :? I doubt it, but yes would be a good call.

Loyalty does pay, I drive past a Sainsbury's garage to fill up at Tesco, due to the BA/ now VS link..

I calculated (according to the normal buy rules), that 10000 = 150 quid, so the real value of that is about 275 quid. So a good return...

Only got a small tesco near me, but perhaps some bulk buying of things such as wine and other 'necessities'...

Is there anything else that is good for 'points whoring' on a day-to-day basis?

At the moment we've got the VS Black AMEX (2 miles per £1), plus I put the odd work-related hotel stay on VS FC, and now we'll bedding the Tesco Clubcard conversion.

Does anyone have any other useful mile earning tips?

The hotel points-to-miles conversions are overall quite good. I put all my work related stays through Holiday Inn and mass convert them especially when they have additional bonus offers on.

Plus Rental cars (for example, Hertz gives you a 1000 miles per hire) tend to be a good way to get a decent bump per trip!

+1, gonna wait till Feb and then if the offer doesn't materialise or I get desperate for VS miles in the meantime then I can convert them.

The VS conversion is better than the BA one at normal rates.

Drink Wine 8D but responsibly |:) daft thing to say on V-flyer I admitt ):
and gain 750 miles per case, plus VS card miles, if you are likely buying day-to-day vino anyhow, this is an easy win.

Do the old amex offer route when they have enrolment bonuses and sack the card after the promotion.

We've bought stuff on behalf of family before to gain the CC points, he says thanking his mother once again for letting me buy her new kitchen the other year... :w

Use the AMEX currency counter at LHR T3 and get 1 mile per £1 spent. Use your VS AMEX and you get double miles!

Book any hotels via hotels.com using a virgin amex. 8 points per pound in total.

Looks to me that Tesco is going all-out for market share at the moment. Apart from this, almost every time we've been recently, there's been one of those 'spend £50, get £7 off' things attached to our receipt. Along with 5p off a gallon...

Or maybe it's just a sign of the times. Yep, I'll defo take the vouchers etc, but even so, I still shop around...
