Very windy here in the south east today, VS16 currently diverting to STN after two go-arounds.

You should have been here last night! I'm surprised I still have electricity and even with ear plugs I could hear the storm raging. It's still very bad and EI710 due out of Cork at 7:30am still hasn't left! :0

I was watching the VS16 on Flightradar24.com, and wondered why she scooted off to STN, poor pax ... looks like lots of delays coming into LHR too, with all the stacks around London full up!

Looks like VIR44 having fun too.

The weather is awful! I heard that part of the roof at Epsom racecourse has blown off!

Glad i'm not flying today!

So I see, hope all the passengers aren't to anxious! I don't see any itineraries for the 16 or 44 today, but there may be a V-Flyer to share a TR.

Pure blue skies and light winds here (Berkshire) now, seems things are calming down!

Certainly seems to have calmed down now, blue skies in Kent too.

I had a friend on the outbound VS31 today who I dropped off at LGW this morning. The VS30 landed just as I was coming off the M23 - It was almost sideways!

Flightradar24 shows VS44 should be landing at LGW in the next few mins.

On a separate note, isn't FlightRadar great! I love checking out how many A380s I can spot over Europe at any one time, only managed 6, but that can only improve .

I was on the above flight and let me tell you it was horrific. As a very nervous flyer the go arounds were terrible. Once we had landed at Stanstead and was told we were refueling and then going to try Gatwick again I freaked and demanded to be let of the plane.
Off to Gatwick now to gt the baggage that they took off with.

How unfortunate for you - go arounds feel mighty odd but really are a safe manoeuvre if the pilot is not completely happy with things, I always think that I'd rather the pilot was in control of these things, as they are.

Hopefully it won't put you off flying again, they are thankfully quite rare happenings.

Never been on a plane that has done a go around, it didnt feel safe as the plane was all over the place. I guess your imagination just comes up with to many unhappy endings. One I could have coped with but two was one to many. And then to see so many fire engines on landing made me realise it could have been bad. As I said I am really not a good flyer, not sure about flying again. I might stick to shorted flights for a while to see how I cope.

Still stormy here in the south east - is this day 3 or 4 of it, I've lost track? Anyone having weird things happening with their net connection? Mine's been weird..... ?|

Here in Scotland, that was the third storm we've had in as many bloody weeks!!

I was working (at GLA) the other day, and the wind-speed, at one point, was gusting to 100mph!! That's just like our summer aswell!!

It was comical and chaotic! All flights were delayed and the airbridges out of use. The Icelandair came in from KEF at 10:15 ish, and the pax & luggage couldn't be offloaded until 14:15ish! There was a fair amount of unhappy passengers I tell ya! Along with pilots, ground staff, cabin crew etc.

I've never seen weather like it in all my life. Mind you, it was quite amusing watching the baggage containers flying around...until one smashed into my van! :0 B)

just found out from a operatios manager at stanstead that VS16 came in on a full may day and requested emergency landing due to low fuel. Does this happen often and I didnt think Jumbo's could land at Stanstead?

I think I am correct in saying anything can get into STN including the 380's STN also takes anything coming into London with an emergency landing required including suspected Hijacks...

It happens oftener than you think among airlines and not just VS. If there's any kind of hold up at the destination airport then a plane will divert. It's not as if the tank is empty though and the plane is going to fall from the sky but no pilot worth his salt will take any chances

Jumbos can land at Stansed. It is the receiving airport in the UK for such incidents as hi-jacking so has to be able to take any kind of aircraft (although I don't know if it's A380 compliant) The Korean cargo plane that crashed there at Christmas in 1999 was a 747.

(Sorry to have to mention these as I know you're a nervous flier but they are rare :# )

Jumbos can even land just 20 miles away at Cambridge airport if they have to. We occasionaly see them in for refits and the like.

I'm not sure how they would cope with 300 people and one slow coffee machine though

so was the may day for low fuel, or because they couldnt land at Gatwick because of high winds? There were 4 fire trucks on runway is that normal?
I am wondering if I should do a flying without fear course, as I at this time do not want to fly again.

More likely the mayday was for the low fuel. It gives priority to that aircraft for landing and yes, 4 fire trucks on the runway is normal in such circumstances

The Flying without Fear course has very positive reviews and you really should consider it.
