I can sort of answer that myself - to align more with the other Virgin brands.
What I am really curious about is How can they ? I thought SQ had forbidden any further use of the Virgin name on airlines but I see that V Australia is now called Virgin Australia,

I understood that that clause with SQ had a time term on it. It expired, rebranding became possible.

SQ now allow the use of the name internationally so Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue V Australia are now all named Virgin Australia. Polynesian Blue has been renamed as Virgin Samoa.

SQ are now also Virgin Australia frequent flyer partners and have reciprocal lounge access.

Thanks

Yes, my wife and I recently used the Virgin Australia lounge in Melbourne.
