A friend of mine was due to fly to LAS this Saturday, via Virgin Holidays. She got an email yesterday, saying the flight has been cancelled. She's been offered a flight tomorrow instead, plus the cost of the extra night in Vegas, but I just wonder if anyone would have any idea why the flight has been pulled? I just tried a dummy booking and it does indeed show no flights.

My initial thought was maybe not enough seats had been sold, but Vegas flights - aren't they almost always very popular???

It isn't the most popular time to fy to Vegas at all, so it could be due to low loads and them consolidating flights. It could also be due to a sudden operational need with an a/c needing to be deployed elsewhere or suddenly needing maintenance and them again needing to merge a couple of the lesser booked flights.

Really? I'm surprised - I'd always thought it was a busy route all the time.

Wrong then ;)

Seems quite a few flights being pulled at the moment. Even with 3 x 346's on long term maintenance, some nights there have been 6-7 aircraft spare at home bases. Other nights, they are all in use. Just looked tonight I reckon only BIG and XLG are "spare"

It is in the main, but like all destinations it has it's highs and lows and with the weather generally not great and maybe without any major conventions then the loads could be light.

It might be that they have no other choice, but my guess would be two fairly light loads, a/c better used elsewhere so best solution to merge the flights.

A colleague is flying to LAS in two weeks, I'm going via New York, his flight had two seats taken un Upper and the rest quiet ...

I also think that BA's daily 747 from LHR has hurt VS business.

I flew back from LAS on the 19th December just gone and the flight was scarily quiet! The seat map in manage my booking looked pretty full prior to the flight and was very shocked once we boarded at LAS to find the cabin crew telling us to sit wherever we liked, I managed to get a whole row of 4 in the middle to myself, needless to say up went the armrests out came my blanket and pillow and zzzzzz all the way back to LGW! Who needs UC! :D
