500 seems like an awful lot - how much of an increase is this??

Still positive news.

I'd have a go but I'm too grumpy. Sacked within hours....

I saw this as well - appears food news for those wanting to give being VS crew a crack - despite the comparatively dire wages.

Given that the uplift in crew will be due in large part to the seasonal YVR, CUN and 2nd SFO flights, how many of these jobs will be on a rolling contract basis, rather than perminant?

3 years ago (almost to the day) VS announced they were looking to make 600 redundant. Not sure how far that go though.

I guess some will be used to fill in on an 'as and when basis' to cover holidays and sickness etc and to ensure a full complement of staff on all flights rather them being 'short staffed' as mentioned in a fair proportion of TRs

It's also on the Virgin Atlantic FB page.

I'd love to apply but everyone would think I was a refugee from AA cabin crew :w

Take your pick; AA, UA, CO - all seem to be a little more mature.

Just thinking about 500 is not a lot as you do need a considerble number to be able to crew even a single daily flight there and back

so say 15* CC per flight there and back is 30. ditto for the next day (60 in total) and then ditto again (90 in total) for the third day (on basis that the day 1 crew can't fly again until day 4).

You probably need a days slack in the system to allow for crew rest down stream as well as holiday/sickness/training cover as well. So getting on for 120 crew just for one route - and that is probbaly with me being mean with crew rest time.

* is this about right for a VS flight?

I think HL would make a great FSM !

She would lead from the front even to the point of checking the quality of the gin and the champers on every flight (for quality control purposes only of course) ): ): ):

Dear, ASW, I realise you are a newbie and therefore not aware of my profile. The cabin crew of AA (and the others you mention) while apparently recruited from Rent-a-Granny are mere saplings compared with me :o)

I claim to be the doyenne of the board. In parliamentary terms I would be the Father (or should that be Mother) of the house.

Oh and tonty is perfectly correct in his summation that I would be quality-control efficient :D

I will take that into consideration in future postings ;)

Given my position at LHR, I frequently have contact with aircrew from a non-passenger perspective - the least said about certain American legacy carriers the better.
