Where to eat - Renaissance Heathrow

We have booked a nights accommodation prior to our April Virgin flight as we got a good deal with parking. Hopefully (dare I say this) we are looking to arrive at approx 7-8pm and so will need somewhere to grab a bite to eat.

Now I'm not always that fond of hotel restaurants - esp airport based - as I find them to be wildly overpriced so I was hoping that someone can give me a bit of advice where to eat. Ideally we won't want to drive although a short taxi / bus ride isn't out of the question.

So, should we stay at the hotel or wander further afield?

Breakfast the next morning isn't a problem as we will be able to use the Clubhouse :D :D :D

Hmm unfortunately the vicinity is mostly other airport hotels... there's a macdonalds down the road :s There is a Chinese called Hong Kong London or something, not sure if its any good. Best thing is probably to jump in a taxi to houndslow :s

The Pheasant, V-Flyer's favourite pub / restaurant of them all, and the venue of many a get together is only a short walk from the Renaissance

Rikki the landlord is a friend of the site and you always get a warm welcome and huge portions

It was the venue of the first ever V-Flyer social and we have been back many times since. y)

The Pheasant has very good "pub grub" with very generous portions. Another "pub" option is the Three Magpies, opposite the Park Inn and about the same distance to walk - down the Bath Road towards Heathrow airport on the other side of the road. Regular chain pub grub there, and usually not full, unlike the Pheasant where it can be difficult to get a table at times - so make sure you get in there early!

That is a very good point. We always book, but it does get very busy. They do serve a good bar menu, if the restaurant is full.

Also (when the weather is warmer) there are tables outside, but then they are popular with the smokers, so eating al fresco is not too appealing for us.

Have to admit I wasn't keen on the Pheasant - it just didn't live up to the hype and the food wasn't anything to write home about. The London Hong Kong restaurant whilst having nice food is completely overpriced for what you actually get.

My recommendation is a curry house called Achari which is in the village of Sipson about a mile behind the Park Inn - one of the best Indian restaurants around and very reasonably priced.

Tha Achari is a great Indian and gets the vote from me too :D . It's a bit of a tradition if we're staying overnight at LHR to pay a visit. It's an easy taxi ride from the Renaissance.

We normally go to The Three Magpies when staying at Renaissance. Typical pub food at very reasonable prices and a good selection of wines (Rioja was very good on last visit). Can get busy on Friday/Saturday nights so you may have to wait for a table. Staff always very friendly.

Thanks for this. Thread saved for use in July.

We are staying at the Ibis.
Has anyone any experience if this hotel?
