We are flying to MCO from MAN next week and normally when we have cleared customs, we take our baggage on the shuttle to the terminal, however this time we were thinking about putting the bags on the belt which takes them to the terminal. My question is which terminal do they go to A or B

Almost certain its terminal A now (used to be terminal B )
We haven't used the belts for ages now, its worth the little inconvienence to take them with you on the shuttle and then straight to the car hire desk or your onward destination.
Sometimes the wait on the bags at the other end can be quite long.
You can easily fit a suitcase on the escalator up to the little monorail to the main terminal.

Yes the carousel is in Terminal A (8A I seem to recall), which is immediately adjacent to the VH Car Hire Station - which is on the street side of the Terminal

My advice would be to take them with you if you can. We've waited close to an hour on several trips before they've arrived.

Agree, but flipside is if they are thru early, they sit on a conveyor next to the main outside doors open to the public which I found a bit unnerving...

I did this journey last December. Due to having 3 hold bags and 2 cabin bags, I had no choice but to put them back on the belt for transfer to the main terminal. I was one of the first through customs etc but had to wait 75 minutes for my bags to arrive at terminal a after I arrived there. So the plane landed at 4.30. I was through immigration By 4.50 but not out the airport until 5 past 6. If at all possible, take your bags on the monorail.
