I may be really thick but could someone who is a bit more knowledgable on all things to do with flight times enlighten me.

How come VS009 from LHR to LAX which is 5440 miles takes less time than VS027 LGW to MCO which is 4342 miles

ie

VS009 today left LHR 11.38 expected to arrive at LAX 14.56 local time.

VS027 left LGW 11.54 exepected to arrive at MCO 16.56 local time.

I susepct that this partially do do with routing, with the MCO flight tending to go across the Atlantic and then down the Eastern seaboard of the US, wheras the LAX flight takes a far northern track

Of course there is a 3 hour time difference between MCO and LAX

Could be something to do with the time difference of 3 hrs between LAX & MCO?

3 hour time difference between Orlando and Los Angeles, times quoted are local times so flight time shown is 1hr 16 min longer for the lax flight

VS7 (presumably) = 10 hrs 40 mins
VS27 = 8 hrs 2 mins

Is it me or are these times wrong? If the LAX flight departs uk time at 11:38 that would be 03:38 in Lax time

Arrival would be at 22:56 uk time and 14:56 Lax Time, flight time by those is 11hrs 18 mins?

Likewise MCO flight uk dep 11:54. MCO time 06:54

Arrival uk time 21:56 MCO time 16:56 which makes it 10hrs 2mins

These times can't be right can they? Edit: 2moros flight to MCO is forecast as 9hrs 45mins maybe the times are right and there are just unfavourable winds, 10hr 2mins just sounded a long flight to MCO to me

I think they are right -- it's just quite a long flight to MCO.

The Orlando flights have been taking over 10 hours lately due to routing and the current position of the jet stream. Also the A333 is a lot slower than the A346 and B744 so you may well see similar flight time to LAX and MCO at the moment

Another point to factor in, is that it depends on the aircraft VS use for the schedule and whether our clocks have been put forward.

I was really confused with the timings for our forcoming trip into Orlando, as normally we travel in April and try to book the VS27 which is supposed to take approx 9hrs.15mins leaving LGW 11.15am and it lands at MCO around 15.30.

However when we travel in March, the VS 27 is going to be a 330 airbus (slightly slower plane?) instead of a 747. It will leave LGW at 11.15 but does not land in Orlando until 17.00 which I assume is also to do with the time difference because our clocks haven't gone forward yet.

Hoping for favourable winds to blow us there earlier

That's a good point -- the clock shifts are very confusing, I think that US summer time typically begins two weeks before us, but ends a week after us. I am usually in the States at the end of October and it is always confusing trying to keep track of it.
