I'm trying to understand Gold and I thought you required 40 tier points to renew, that's what it says everywhere else on the benefits page, but this is listed on the benefits page too:-

"Share your golden glow: Take just three Upper Class return flights in a 12 month period to keep your Gold status, and receive a companion ticket when you renew. You just need to be travelling in a qualifying adult class (J, W, S, Y, B, L) in the same cabin, at the same time. Bookings must be made directly with Virgin Atlantic and in advance of travel**."

Because 3 flights is only 30 tier points????? ?| ?| ?| ?| ?|

I've noticed that too -- I believe it's a mistake.

There are lots of errors still on the website since the flying club changes. Hopefully they will disappear as the new site is rolled out.
