After a bitching emails from myself about never getting the "Welcome back on-board Mr x" I can now say on my last PE flight from LHR to BOS last week I got one

I took my seat, started to read and then was approached by a member of cabin crew. Got the welcome back and then got an invite to the Upper Class bar during the fight.

Something so small but means I will be spending my (or at least
my companies) money on still going forward!!!

Just goes to show how such a small appreciation can go a long way. And in your case, quite far as you have recounted this to many V-Flyers.

Obviously loads will have an impact on whether someone is invited to the Bar, but the mere fact you were welcomed back (which does not cost a bean) has retained your custom

I have recently noticed that I get a welcome back on the USA flights but not on the HKG flights.

I'm intrigued - what triggers the 'welcome back' message? Is it just if you have a flying club account and they have a list of people who have been past flyers?

Yes, the Crew are provided with a list of FC Pax - it does seem strange that some crews can make a point of coming up and welcoming you , whereas others do not

Thanks Buns - that's a pretty cool touch if you have a crew that does it! We joined flying club for our flight last year? So hopefully we'll get it again in September!

I was very impressed with the CC at the door of our VS flight to HKG last Novemeber when they greeted me by name....in Economy !!

Worst than no welcome back is when the crew ask you if it is your first time and are you familiar with the seat.

Especially when a) they have a manifest showing your FC number and b) when you have a carry-on dangling a FC card - in particular a gold one

I had a welcome back once on a HKG flight when I was in Y. The FSM came to my seat during the flight and welcomed me back by name and I was an AG FC.

Guess that even as a gold that there's a chance you may not have been in UC before... albeit a very very remote one!
