Really sorry for the passengers who had to wait another 24 hours for their bags, but impressed that not only is the Aircraft picture in the Daily Mail today a Virgin 744, it's actually a picture of G-VAST which was the stricken a/c, which seems now undergoing maintenance at LGW!

More impressive was that on the 64 on Sunday we were offered the FT or the Independent - no Mail :)

Ground Staff in Barbados could not get the rear baggage hold open so sent the bags back to the uk for engineers to fix the door and then sent them back to barbados. |:) :o) took over 24 hours for people to get there luggage,

The front hold was able to be opened so this technical fault did not affect all customers

Makes you wonder why no one was able to open the rear doors in barbados? Is there no engineers that could have taken a look and saved alll that hassle?

Amazing waste of fuel and landing fees etc.....still, they probably didn't have another choice...

Well the article does say they tried several times.

They might have been able to get the doors open but the situation would have been far worse if they then couldn't shut the doors and the plane being unable to fly and then a couple of hundren pax being stuck in Barbados until another plane could have been sent.

Well the article did say that the flight did it's normal (loaded) run back so not sure how there was any waste.

Bit of a non story really. I couldn't find any reference to "fury", "rage", "lifetime trip ruined" or "children in tears", just a cricket coach mildly put out because he had to wear a long sleeve shirt and didn't have anyone to roll the sleeves up for him.

Some of the responses and the user names attached are quite astonishing. I used to think Private Eye's "From the Message Boards" was a spoof. Now I know better. :D

"expensive Caribbean holidays"

I can almost hear the crying at Sandy Lane. I wonder if Michael Winner was amongst them?
