SFO bound

I just recieved an email from good old VH conceirge welcoming me to my forthcoming visit next month. Also included was a price list of tours, etc.

A couple of questions 1. Do people use VH to book excursions and are they cheaper than before we land( I did a quick check online and they were about the same or a few dollars more)? :)

Or do any V-Flyers just book excursions etc , when they get there?

Thanks

Jurgen

I've always booked trips etc independently (mind thats because I travel independently!)

I also go for passes like city pass or go san francisco card. The latter might seem expensive but it is very good value and you can often jump the line as well. It pays to do a little research in advance as well.

For Alcatraz go to the official site (these are the ONLY tours that can land on the island. I particlarly recommend the 'night tour' - less crowded but some parts are open that arn't on the day tour.

I too always book trips/tours independently.

Be prepared to be pestered by the concierge with calls before and during your holiday if you do contact them or ask them something. The 'concierge' term is used very loosely as all they seem to be there for is actually just selling you trips.

I also had to explain multiple times to them why I'd not booked transfers with VH :(! on arrival/departure at SFO. I just used the BART as it's way cheaper and actually quicker to/from city centre hotels.

Also, book it now. Don't wait until you get there, they sell out quickly.

If you fancy a tour with a bit of a difference in SFO, try this

We did it a few years ago and was the best few hours of fun we had there :D

Do not forget to BIKE THE BRIDGE - awesome, ferry back after an exhilarating ride into Sausalito (?)

y) y) y) I would also recommend the night tour, it's great to see the city at night from the island and it adds to the atmosphere.

A vote from me too :) . Several years ago Mr DL and I hired a go -car and had great fun (we drove down Lombard Street in it and were papped by a bus of Japanese tourists :o) ). A word of warning though they do struggle up the really steep hills (I had to get out and run alongside :D ) and there's no reverse -they're essentially a (not very powerful) motorbike engine.

Sorry - not strictly on topic but I would absolutely recommend this: http://mrtoadstours.com/ The personality and dedication of our guide made it a tremendous tour.
