Can't pre assign seats?!

Just a quick question! I emailed virgin about my booking ref and asked when I can log in to view booking/ assign seats ect. And I got a reply saying if your travelling after 1st november 2012 you cannot pre assign seats but have to book then either on OLCI or at the desk? Why is this??? I always pre assigned my seat haha
On my flight I'll be going UC so thought they wouldn't need to change the plane config?

Hi - this has been mentioned many times and there are a few threads about it in the forum.
Virgin are updating there IT systems and from the 1st November they are temporarily stopping any pre-seat allocations, in any class. It has nothing to do with configs being changed etc.

Although it is somewhat untrue of VS to say this on the page where they've posted the news about seat requests:
"Please don’t forget that all seats, on every flight will be available to select when check-in opens". v(
