Booking flights to SFO in June - changing prices

Hi,

I'm looking at travelling to SFO in June, there will be 4 people in our group - I've been watching the fares over the last few weeks and they seem to be fluctuating quite alot with a few dates becoming cheaper only today (yet BA's seem fairly consistent).

Does anybody know the best time to book these? Should I just book them now or keep watching to see if they get lower? I thought pricing was based on the load but clearly not!

Also, does anyone have any thoughts on the new A340-300 service? I'm concerned that these planes won't have V-port for the 11hr flight, however I do like the idea of the late SFO departure.

Thanks!

Simply put...

The best time to buy is when you are happy with the price. Sadly there's no rhyme or reason to pricing other than what the market will support. Like shares, prices can go down as well as up and up and up.

Once booked, don't ever look again to see if they are cheaper as you'll only be disappointed, and VS will not refund the difference.

The family and I are flying on that new 18:50 flight from SFO to LHR in late May and I've been thinking the same thing but I will say that for me the overnight flight to LHR is mostly about trying to sleep a little anyway or else that next day in London is pure hell so the later takeoff outweighs the comparative lack of entertainment options.

Thanks for your thoughts. I went with VS42 in the end, after deciding that sleeping on the flight is probably the better option afterall!

However, I just went into manage my booking to select the seats and it is now saying I'm travelling on an A340-600. Is this possible or is that likely an error on the seat map?

I've been keeping an eye on the V-Flyer aircraft database and it looks like the route has mainly been operated by A340-300's but occasionally it's been 600's so it's possible.

Fingers crossed for you (and me) since the 600's have V-Port!

Hi SFO-Marc,

I noticed that too - fingers crossed! Interestingly the seat map in manage my booking shows a 600, yet when doing a dummy booking on the same dates, VS still shows a A330-300. Wonder which is more accurate...
