Refund of charges

Hi
Last week I bought 3 return tickets, Miles plus Money, class O. It's now looking as though one member of the party won't be able to fly. Am I right in believing that we can claim back the taxes and charges if we pay a £30 admin fee?
Many thanks in anticipation of a reply.
Mrs D

I dont think you get the fuel surcharges back, which is normally the biggest chunk of the fare

You should get the taxes and airport fees back but NOT the VS fuel surcharge (or the base fare)
Depending on the reason for one not being able to travel your travel insurance may cover the rest.

Although...
There are some members who *have* had their fuel surcharges refunded against mileage tickets, so I do wonder how far that precedent could be pushed...

Hi Mrs D,
The tickets are valid for one year. Me being you I would leave the booking exactly as it is and if next year comes and you know 100% the ticket will not be used then request a refund of the taxes because what you will get back is basically peanuts. You will still be entitled to your taxes should next year come and you not use the ticket so that wouldn't be a problem but definitely hold fire on the refund request! That passenger can travel anywhere on the VS network between now and next year so you never know.
Regards.

but you would have to be pretty certain of your future travel date otherwise you would have to pay a 2nd change fee. You would also have to make the change before the current date of travel otherwise you would loose the whole lot as a 'no show'
You would also have to pay any difference in fare for the new date / route too.
Refund would be something like £120 (after the admin fee) so hardly peanuts.

If you do not advise VS then as Tontybear says the passenger will go down as a No-Show the only penalty then being that the penalty for the new dates will be a bit higher so where you would have paid £50 for a date change on the Miles and Money you may have to pay £100 for the no-show. There is no guarantee that there will be additional collection of fare on the ticket as when you re-book if the new fare is lower then only the no-show fee will apply. Rest assured you WILL NOT lose the ticket if you go as a No-Show.
Mrs D if you feel what I have suggested is the best way for you. Leave your booking as it is. It will not affect you checking-in online or anything then just pop to the Ticket Desk and advise your companion will not be able to travel. The Ticket Desk will split the person from your booking and either remove the sectors for you to re-book when ready or leave them in there for the ticket to go down as a no-show. So effectively just do not advise VS the person will not be travelling till on the day.
Regards.
