APD Increase - what effect will it have?

HI all

with the announcement regarding the increase in Air Passenger Duty, it got me thinking - what about those of us that have already booked and paid for flights?

Does it mean that we now owe a further amount of tax?

Will this affect things like OLCI, because effectively there is now a outstanding balance on the account?

Hopefully some of you more knowledgable peeps will be able to settle these queries!

Virgin have said that if you have booked and paid, they won't pass the increase on. Not so sure about other airlines.

Because of the STUPID way the government have implemented this on flights, rather than bookings from April, some airlines are planning to collect the difference prior to boarding. Whether that's at check-in or in advance, I'm not sure.

VS, on the other hand, have done something truly customer centric for once in a long while and are absorbing the cost for passengers already booked prior to the announcement being confirmed. (Of course, it saves them a lot of admin and hassle too, but it does primarily benefit the traveller...) :)

What effect will it have - tax all of us who travel even more.
