Hi,
Does anyone know why the current flight Virgin Atlantic flight (VS77) from Manchester Barbados status looks to be that it's going to depart from Lajes Field in the Azores at 20.35?

Probably a medical diversion

Looks like this may have been more than a medical diversion...
G-VLIP is still on the ground at TER and according to the flight status tool on the VS website will remain there overnight due to 'unforeseen circumstances'.
I guess the problem may have been mechanical?

Whatever has happened it has had a big impact on other flights, the VS73 today was due to be operated by G-VLIP and this flight has now being delayed until tomorrow, so a full 24 hour delay.

Not the first time a VS 747 has been to Lajes either: see
here.

It could still be medical and the crew would've gone out of hours if the flight continued? It could still be anything else too :p

I'm keeping a close eye on this as I'm supposed to be on VS085 on Thursday.

We may never know the reason for this, but if we assume that Manchester to Barbados is near the limit for a flight crew and a medical case requires a diversion. By the time the plane has dumped fuel, diverted, landed and refueled, the crew would have gone out of hours so an overnight stay is required. With the knock on effect for these passengers, those awaiting the 78 return, and those at MAN awaiting the next flight the cost to VS could be huge. How much of this would be covered by the passengers medical insurance?
Second question, is there a scheduled flight from TER to get the pasenger home?

Yesterday's 43 seems to have gone tech after landing in LAS. Not getting back to LGW until after midnight tonight. Will have a big knock on effect. Very unfortunate to have two planes with serious delays on the same day and during the busy Easter holidays.

though as today's 43 was cancelled should mean all planes back in place at LGW at least to pick up the schedule tomorrow

Noticed G-VLIP which is currently in Lajes had a 5 hour delay coming inbound from ANU the other day so maybe its suffering from the same technical problem as it had the other day (if the reason for the ANU delay was technical) 8D

VS confirmed on twitter that VS77 was diverted for a medical emergency.

A third major delay yesterday was the 601 from LHR being delayed overnight until this morning when a 346 arrived early morning. Apart from one at MNL, all the 346's were flying last night so not sure where the aircraft for the 601 was meant to come from.

Well, I just hope that it was a good outcome from the medical emergency.

According to Wikipedia, there are scheduled flights operating from TER to Lisbon, and there is also a flight to AMS which is seasonal.
