Upgrading an upgrade ticket

Hi there,

First post so please be gentle!

As the title suggests I recently purchased an economy ticket to JFK in November and used miles to upgrade to premium. Since then I have noticed that the S class ticket price for premium has fallen, and I am now wondering if it is possible to pay the difference between my economy ticket and the S class premium economy ticket, and use the same miles to upgrade to Upper? If not I have been rather foolish and wasted my miles as the difference between the economy fare I paid to upgrade, and the lowest premium fare is now only £80! Whereas the difference between the s class premium fare, and the lowest upper is somewhat more!

Many thanks for any help!

Jo

Welcome to V-Flyer :)

If you have used miles to upgrade to Premium from an economy fare, you can only use more miles to upgrade further to Upper Class.

The revenue fare price for Premium is irreverent as you are now on a Premium reward fare and you cannot go back or change to a revenue fare once it's been upgraded with miles to a reward fare.

Are we 100% sure on that James? That it's not possible to effectively cancel an upgrade?
You can cancel an upgraded ticket and get the miles (less deduction penalty) back, so why would they not allow just cancelling the upgrade element?
Has anyone tried this before?

Thanks for your quick reply!
Hi James,

Thanks for your quick reply!

Just to confirm that I'm understanding - bit foggy this late on a friday- if I purchase the extra Miles I need, I can then upgrade this ticket again for another 20,000 Miles?

Sorry if I sound a bit dense, but purchasing the extra Miles is even cheaper than the difference in revenue fare! And if thats the case, why didnt I just do that in the first place! Silly girl!

Thanks,

Jo

You can upgrade your Premium Economy reward seat to Upper Class for another 20k miles (return) -- yes. But only if there is reward availability in Upper Class on the flights you want! You will also need to pay some extra fuel surcharge and possibly a change fee. Best way to explore your options is to give the Upper Class line a ring. Good luck! :)

Hi all,

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice. Managed to change ticket to upper class using an extra 20,000 miles, some of which I had to buy, so effectively the standard 40,000 miles overall from Economy to UC. There was a slight difference in taxes, but other than that no penalty for changing, and a much wiser use of my hard earned miles!

Thanks again,

Jo
