Hi guys,

Hope you've all been enjoying the weekend :)

Whats the situ with hand luggage onboard VS flights? I want to take my 'man bag' with me to carry my iPad, magazines etc etc but I also want to take my camera bag. I dont want to check my camera due to the value of the kit and lenses.

Do VS allow 1 x bag and a camera bag on board?

Technically, in Economy or Premium, you are only allowed one hand bag. It's only Upper where you are allowed 2 bags onboard with you.

Take a bigger bag that can contain your manbag and camera?

Then when you get to your destination, roll up the other bag, and put it inside manbag.

Or.... Provided the size doesn't go outside of constraints, but them both in a bin liner until you are on board lol

Have a look here, at the bottom there is a list of additional items allowed on top of hand luggage allowance, how you define "small" for a camera I don't know...

In my experience, In Upper, I have taken 2 bags of hand luggage and a DSLR camera bag.

Thanks guys,

Thats the thing... it's a DSLR in a shoulder bag, probably just slightly smaller than my 'man bag', dont know what to do as dont want to take the risk of them not letting it onboard.

Despite what you read on the VS hand baggage page, they are actually quite flexible in practice, so if your manbag is laptop size and the camera is not sports photographer length, you will be fine.

If you are really concerned, JW's suggestion is best. Get a big canvas tote bag and chuck the other two inside. I often travel with a max size carry on plus a very small laptop bag and no one even blinks. Although that may be an (unpublished) benefit of being Au and checking in at the UC desks.

Whatever you do take on, I guarantee there will be someone with more hand luggage than you. We have all seen at least one on every flight! :D
