O to L then upgrade

I am flying backMCO-LGW on April 27th. currently on an O ticket which i bought months ago, changed twice and have ended up as low as you can get. :0

i have more than enough miles for an upgrade to UC and there are plenty of seats still available.

i think I am right in saying I have to pay to go to an L fare as a minimum ? does anyone have any idea of approx cost ?

or should I gamble and wait till the day and try the infamous anything goes at the airport route ?

Yes, you will have to upgrade to an L and then you can use your miles. You say there are plenty of UC seats available, are they miles seats or just revenue ones? Just because there are seats available for sale, doesn't mean you can use miles for them.

Regarding price, you are much better giving VS a call, as they will be able to calculate it accurately, including the change fee on your O (£120 I believe), the current fare difference, plus all the extra taxes/surcharges for the G.

Yes, you could wait for the day, but with a limited UC cabin, the seats could easily go in advance, so I guess it is up to you to decide if you are happy to take the risk. Plus they should really still have to change you to an L.

thanks neil, pretty much as i figured. the alternative is just dump the EC flight and book a one way miles trip which is £312 'taxes' plus 50k miles instead of £x?? + 30000. i have enough miles the extra doesnt matter if i can save some cash.

they currently have 5 revenue seats available and 5 rewards so looks ok to me

Dumping the Y flight is okay, providing it is the return leg of a round trip journey, if it is the outbound and you still want to use the return then don't do that, because you will be classed as a no show and your full ticket cancelled!

Might be worth phoning for a quote because it's hard to price up single-sector fare changes.

My guess? Back-of-envelope calculation suggests a bit less than £400. I may be way out!

well its all done and IMO a bit of a bargain. it is a return leg so I could have dumped it BUT after getting a refund for my exit row seat in EC the net cost is $418 yup dollars or approx £260. add in 25000 miles instead of 50k and a nice UC seat is mine. appreciate all the help

I think that's a great deal -- congratulations!

I didn't think exit row fees were refundable in this situation.

oh yes and it makes it a bit sweeter. this trip has been changed at least 3 times so I honestly have no idea what it has cost me but it looks like around $1900 plus 60-70000 miles to get PE MCO-LGW and UC back . that includes 2 change fees .
