IFE?

Sorry, we tend to fly on different carriers, so can't remember when Virgin switches it's IFE on and off? ANZ has it on for take-off and landing - am I correct in thinking this isn't the case for Virgin?

Thanks
Boo

Yes, as with all UK carriers, no IFE during Taxiing, Take Off and Landing. This is due to CAA rules :-)

One of the more consistent moans about VS is that they don't fire up the IFE until WELL after take off and insist on shutting it down a LONG time before landing (often an hour or more n( n( ) .

Contrast this with Virgin America who have their Red system fired up when you sit down and keep it on throughout the flight.

Thanks very much both of you :)

We are travelling with a 2 1/4 year old toddler to LA in about a month. So far have only travelled with him as a lap infant or in BA CW (where you can sit either sit and, er, "pin him down" during take-off and landing...). He is a good traveller and I am not worried about the flight (IFE, iPad, trips to the bar etc), but I am a little worried about both take-off and landing in a suite...

Suggestions welcome (duck tape, bungee cords, chloroform already suggested... ;) )

I have flown with Virgin many times and the IFE gets switched on as soon as every passenger gets a headphone, straight after the seatbelt sign is switched off and isn't switched off until the seatbelt sign is switched on before landing and headsets collected by the crew.

Sadly that isn't always true, I've been on many flights were as Nick says, it's a long time after, and a long time before - and not related to the seatbelt sign either.

Have often heard the announcement about the IFE only being switched on once all passengers have been given headphones.. can understand that on the loop system where you could miss the start of a film if you dint have any when it came on, struggle to see the need to wait until then with V:Port/JAM though!

On all my business flights recently (LAX 07/24) NYC(1/2) and a holiday flight to Jamaica I havent had my headphones taken off of me until the seatbelt sign was on and the crew were checking seatbelts etc. The IFE on the flight to Jamaica said 'You may not be able to view the whole film' on the last showing of the films but it was still left on until well into decent when the seatbelts came on. Then they showed a video over the PA system about their charity. Just my experience.
