another miles question

If I were to book a reward flight in 2 different classes, ie PE out, UC back, would there still be an opportunity to try and upgrade the PE flight (assuming it's available), either closer to the time by phone or at the airport? Or, as it'd be a reward flight, would that not be an option?

I think you can now buy CH access too???

Or perhaps they just aren't up yet? :D

My understanding is that CH access can still only be bought on an "if space available" basis.

Please give people a chance to respond. A two hour gap between your posts that early in the morning is not unusual and indeed to be expected. I saw it earlier at 7am but was rushing elsewhere - as I'm sure were half of V-Flyer.

To answer your question, yes you can upgrade from PE to UC but only with miles.

You don't say which CH but the main criteria is, as pjh says, space available

I booked a reward flight LHR-SFO in PE as there was no availability in UC at the time, I checked virtually every day to see if any had become available, no joy so I asked at check in on the day and was told yes I could upgrade using miles five minutes later I was on my way to the Clubhouse.

I don't think you can buy CH access now.

There was a time when if it was not too busy they would (at the check-in desk not at the CH) but no one seems to have done that for a while - or at least mentioned it on here that they have bought it on-the-day.

I agree with above, have upgraded a miles flight at the airport with more miles. BUT they had to be the same account

I'm sure people have said recently that they got access on the day, can't find any posts ATM though... Also Greg on Facebook said you could if there was availability. (LHR and LGW)

Thats's what I meant - I couldn't see it being mentioned in any TRs not that it had stopped happening.

The whole problem is the 'space availability' basis isn't it? - nice if it happens but you're a bit stuck if you planned a nice few hours there in your minds eye only to be told 'computer says no'.

Do the No1 and Servise air lounges allow walk-up access?

I can confirm that you can still buy access at LHR for £60 on the day if space permits. I heard a VS staffer at LHR saying this last week.

That's very interesting :) I actually thought the paying of £60 on the day only applied to Virgin Holiday customers. Wonder if anyone has tried to apply this?

Profuse apologies :( I did only add that, as I saw about 20 had already viewed it...

20 people viewing it within 2 hours at that time of the morning is not a huge amount. Of those a significant number may not know the answer as they may be either newbies or the once a year traveller. Others, like myself may not have had time to respond there and then but were saving it till later when they had the chance.

Incidentally both these questions were asked recently and a search would have given you the answer

Apologies HL, it wasn't my intention to offend.
