Sleeping Strategy

We're on an upcoming VS24 LAX-LHR departing at 9:30. What's the best sleeping strategy for this flight?

what cabin are you in?
it will also depend on what your usual sleeping routine is and how easy/not you find it to get to sleep in a strange environment.
Some people use sleeping tablets prescribed by their doctor but I am not an advocate of medication.

Depends on you, and how much you sleep really.
We eat before boarding and then go to sleep straight after take-off. However these is an argument that this will allow too much sleep too late (UK time) and - since we are travelling with a toddler - we may well pay for it...
Depending on your commitments the next day, maybe the best solution is to go to sleep on take-off and wake up after a short sleep? 5 hours? Try and get back onto toughly UK time as quickly as possible.

Personally I always try to get onto local time for meals and sleep, especially if it is a business trip and I need to keep jet lag to a minimum. Usually the CC will wake you up if asked but now the Freedom Menu option (don't get me started on this one) has been removed you may not want to miss the main meal when it is served.

I don't try and get to sleep. If a fall asleep then great but I won't make an effort. The result is I'm shattered when I get back to the UK but I get through the first day, crash to bed relatively early and am back to normal next day. Still a little tired but no serious jet leg. It works for me but everyone is different.
Whenever I've tried to get to sleep on a plane it's usually always been a disaster and I just feel even worse the next day and for a few days after.

With the VS24 I would say that the trick is not to sleep for too long, and then do your best to stagger through to the end of your first day in the UK. If you have a very long sleep the risk is that you will simply remain on Pacific Time (or close to it), which will then make the adjustment in the UK pretty brutal.
