Dropping from Silver to Red

My Silver membership expired at the end of April. As expected on the 3rd May an entry in my account stated that my membership number had changed (I assume this equates to Congratulations you are now a RED). However my account still says I am Flying club silver. When is the dreaded deed done? Does it only happen when the card itself is issued?

I think it's when the number changes as there's some inbuilt coding that reveals the status...IIRC mine hung on showing me as Silver for a while whilst I was clearly in the Red..

I really don't want to sound like I am denegrating the value of AG status, and I also recognise that effort still goes into attaining it (especially for anyone not lucky enough to have an employer thay pays for UC flights!).
But... it's not exactly the hardest of landings, dropping down to red is it? Yes, a few bonus miles on flights lost, and maybe a little lower down the pecking order for those all too rare op-ups (not that I've ever had one either). Hell, it's not even as though the membership cards are nicely designed - whatever you status. In fact I'd say the AU card is the most tacky and 'bling' of the lot!

Took about 4.weeks for me.
In fact I still earned bonus silver miles on a flight to SFO in March after I had been officially downgraded to red.
My flight in August this year will take me back up to silver. It's a bit of a yo-yo existence. I will never get to gold but the 1-2 flights a year earn a few extra miles if you are silver.
Fail to understand why they have to change your FC number though?
