V-Flyer

Hello everyone

I've browsed lots but only just registered! Hi.

I'm a once a year flyer to America probably, and am worryingly obsessed with always doing it on VA.

I am planning a trip flying
Oct 27 - Heathrow -> Boston
Nov 8 - Washington -> Heathrow

We are going to NYC in the middle but it makes sense time wise to follow the boston, train to ny, train to washington route i think.

It's coming in at £570, or miles + money at £493. And I'm booking for two of us.I've never done miles + money before, but it seems pretty simple. Is there anything I need to be aware of, other than you don't gain miles & tier points (I'm on 9, but not going to hit 15 before they expire!) Boo!

I looked at buying miles and then using them to get the flight, but it didn't seem a great price. I've got 29,007 miles at the mo.

I guess the idea of waiting to see if any special prices come up for those dates is tempting, but with no way of knowing we should probably just crack on and buy these. FYI the classes coming up are are both class X.

Thanks for any advice, sorry for asking mundane questions!

If you are happy with those prices then go for them. Your dayes look to be the 1/2 term period so it is unlikely that they will drop any lower though.

As to your train trip - just get the normal services and not the Acela (unless you're a train geek) as it is not that much faster but a lot more money.

Have to disagree tonty. Me and the present Mrs Treelo took the Acela on the same route (Boston to NYC) a couple of years ago and the trip was fantastic - and, IIRC, not that much more expensive than the bog standard train.
If you do decide on the Acela, make sure you ask for the 'quiet' coach - it absolutely does what it says on the tin

Having also previously done Boston -NYC I have to agree and take the Acela Express. Time wise is about half an hour quicker but cost wise is not that much more expensive.

The minimum class on the Acela is Business.

Completely agree about the Acela - yes it is more money, but not always a huge amount more - but it is much more comfortable and pleasant. If you need it you get WiFi, and nothing beats a cold beer and microwaved hot dog from the cafe while watching the coast of Connecticut pass by!

As for prices, if it's half term I agree with Mr T, its highly unlikely prices will go down. Snap up those X-s while they last if that's within your range!
