Changing dates of flight - an experience

Just wanted to share a recent experience with you:

The objective was to change the outbound date of my wife’s flight that had been purchased using miles. Before making the call, we entered dummy bookings to check availability.

I then phoned VS (AU line) and was told that the date we wanted had already gone, so we chose a day later. I have been checking availability for 2 weeks and the day in question had always been free. Anyhow, we accepted this new date and paid the £25 change fee as requested.

Life was good, however I was still a bit miffed and just to satisfy my curiosity did another dummy booking; the date we originally wanted was still free.

Phoned VS again and spoke to a different lady. Firstly the date we originally wanted still had availability and the change was quickly made. Next as I had made the booking for my wife (AU member) using my miles, change fees are not levied; the lady kindly ran into the next room and cancelled the previous transaction. The only cost involved was a difference in tax. Okay no problem, however the line went quiet. We asked what the issue was and the lady stated that she would have to deduct this fee but (wait for it) it was only 3p. Surely AMEX would charge more that this to collect 3p?

All ended well, just goes to show inconsistency between VS staff.

All credit to you for your tenacity y) y)

We should all expect to be given the best information available (well as far as the Computer says ): ) when we contact VS and to have two differing answers is not good v(

That ugly word inconsistency rears its head in a discussion about VS staff, what a shocker :0 :0 :0

Good work on getting it sorted oo)

To be fair to VS, even if someone was doing just what you did, a dummy booking check, it could 'hide' the availability on that date - this being a feature of VS's booking engine.

For the fee however, that's just awful and really you should write in.
