Omigod, mushroom risotto! Every time I've had it on a VS flight it has been gorgeous. I think I might have to ask for a PE meal

Could a MOD split the PE menu from the UC menu into its own thread? - might save confusion and direct people to what they really want

but what if you don't like mushrooms?

Would be an interesting meal for my other arf who doesn't like mushrooms or any type of fish/seafood.
Chocolate cake ahoy

Oh, I really don't like smoked salmon, something about the texture!
And, I can't stand those sandwiches, always felt that cheese and onion was a strange choice as it's likely to displease quite a few people...and that bread is like soggy cardboard.
Shame they couldn't at least provide a choice of sandwiches...

Here is the new PE menu on the inbound US flights.....
Starter
Balmoral Smoked Salmon with cucumber lemon and creme fraiche salad
Main Course
Braised Beef and leek stew with herb dumplings
Stir-fried chicken with chilli pepper sauce
Penne Pasta with roasted tomato, butternut squash and Alfredo sauce with tomato crumb
Bread
Choice of oven baked rolls
Dessert
Strawberry and rhubard crumble tart
Breakfast
Scrambled eggs with bacon
Caramelised onion and ricotta frittata
Tea or coffee
The dinner was probably the best PE meal I have had in recent years with Virgin. Smoked slamon starter very nice but also very small! Gone is the varitey of mixed leaves with one cherry tomato!
Main course not bad at all, although the beef had run out as we were in the back row of PE. Salt and pepper pots inscribed with 'Pinched from Virgin Atlantic' on the bottom of them. So I did as instructed!
Breakfast was actually a full english - scambled egg, sausage, tomato mushrooms and bacon. This seemed to be unchanged from the breakfast we have had on the last couple of inbound flights

Did Gate Gourmet discover a stash of mushies in the cellar and offer them at a discount to VS ... I mean what level of imagination puts them on every main course option :0 !

I can't quite believe that *every* main course option contains mushrooms :$
Seems very short-sighted menu planning, and there is no option on MMB for "mushroom-free meal!"

Got to agree there, especially with really strong cheese.

I flew out of LHR last week in PE I don't eat creamy/ cheesy sauces which they all had so they gave me a very nice chicken biryani, it was in a china dish so not a economy meal, we also had ice cream half way through the flight and they very kindly got me a tuna finger sandwich and a ham and chutney one from upper class at tea time to go with the cup cake. The crew on this flight were great and couldn't do enough for you.

Mushrooms ick... Lucky went out economy and came back PE and the food was OK - chose the stir fry chicken and it was quite nice.

Is there any difference in the service style? The press release from VS seemed to suggest that they were going to revamp the way the meal was served rather than sticking to the 'all one one tray' approach.

The way the meal was served was more or less the same. The tray now has a white cloth on it and the starter was in a round bowl rather than the square dish they previously used. Main course was in an oval shape dish. Dessert was a slice of flan served on a side plate. So presentation was a bit better - the tray did look less cluttered - maybe because of the missing cheese and biscuits! No empty coffee cup on the tray - this is now served in a paper cup afterwards.
Interesting to see how difficult it was for the cabin crew to stack the trays into the trolley after the meal as the tray cloth hangs over the edge of the tray making it difficult to slide onto the shelves.

Bloody Salmon on the way back as well? Yuck!
Cheese and onion sandwiches - oh how this could polarise V-Flyer!
That stir-fry on the way back sounds good though...
