Just thought i would share with you my recent statement of miles due to the many posts regarding is BA better than Virgin FC,
Starting from march 19th i paid for my VH to barbados with my VA card "of course i paid it back later that month"!! 6778miles
17th may i purchased virgin travel insurance. 89miles
26th may i received 7500 miles in total as i recommended my two kids and misses.
Also on the 26th i received 5000 miles for the spring bonus.
Also on the 26th i received 5263 miles for flying premium economy. followed by 12499 miles with VH.
As you can see from the statement i received the same for returning,
which works out at a massive 54,892 miles y) .
all for one holiday / one trip, so i hope anyone in two minds will see this, and i challenge them to beat my mileage, my advice dont bother trying you wont anywhere, apart from Virgin FC

Oh how could i forget i received a lowly 2 points fron flybe to get me to gatwick from jersey

Great until it costs you £400 in "fuel surcharge and other fees" to use your 50,000 miles for a "reward"..... v(

(PS - I wouldn't recommend posting a stament with peoples' last names and VS Flying Club account numbers on it. You may not mind, but it's pretty rude when considering the person who's personal information you're posting)

...which are still less use than the same number of miles (or even half of that) in BA's scheme where any ticket is upgradable. :w

Well that is a nice haul for one flight, however, as Preiffer points out, the YQ surcharge just make VS totally uncompetitive in my eyes.

Are they really that high , Wow,

i do have about 100,000miles now so im hoping a decent reward sale will happen soon,

does anyone have any ideas when this is likely to happen if at all, or what the routes might be

I think people question the value of the FC programme not so much from the ability to earn VS miles as the ability to spend the VS miles. Given that you now have them and want to use them, if you approach it from the perspective of "I have a bunch of miles, where and when can I go?" rather than "I want to go to X in month Y and want to use my miles" you are more likely to be able to unlock their value.

Which is fine, however my guess is that a fair few people that earn fairly substantial miles are in the same boat as me - people traveling for business with families, specifically kids of school age. Frankly the chances of me ever getting 4 reward PE/UC flights/upgrades to anywhere we'd want to go to in the school hols is remote to non-existent. Even places like Dubai, where G availability seems to be reasonable - nothing for the last 2 years that I could find. Other options - Y rewards - total waste of miles due to the remaining taxes. M+M - even these can be thin on the ground, and I've not seen any decent saves coming from them (I appreciate others have fared better).

This isn't actually intended as a rant - I'm consciously saving up miles until the kids disown us/leave home and we have flexibility again. So provided VS doesn't go bust in the next 10 years, I do expect to realise the value eventually. But I can see why to some people VS miles are not all that attractive.

True, and that's the position we are now in. Only looking for two tickets, and more flexibility about where to go, though still stymied by school holidays due to MrsPJH's headmistressly employment.
