Middle PE Seats on A340-600

Hi all... my wife are booked to fly NRT-LHR in mid-Sept. Upon booking, only the mid cabin section of 3 seats was available. So, one of will have the middle F seat.

If the other aisle seat is occupied, will this be a cramped and uncomfortable for the person in the middle? Or are the seats and armrests wide enough, so that it is still OK?

Also, what are the chances of scoring the 18AC or 18HK pairs at check-in?

Thanks in advance,
Cheers, vausflyer

It will be fine as long as one of the people concerned isn't absolutely enormous. The PE seats are generously wide.

Definitely ask about row 18 at check in. I managed this on a number of occasions even when I was just FC Red.

Incidentally, row 18 had mixed benefits--I find the galley noise and bustle quite disturbing, but you may not mind.

Bear in mind that the middle seat has a lot of equipment under it for the TV so leg room is limited. If you have long legs go for the isle.

Thanks for the answers, folks. Much appreciated. Fortunately, neither of us have overly long legs. In any case, please confirm ... my recollection was that there is a fold-down footrest attached to the back of the seat in front. Correct?

Also, can the row 18's be selected at the online check-in stage?

Cheers, vausflyer

I don't know if you've flown biz/first domestically in the US, but the seats in PE with Virgin are pretty similar. What I'm getting at is that the arm rests are fixed, so, it's unlikely you'll feel crammed (legroom aside) by the other pax....but then, there's always the psychological side of it which can't be discounted.

Row 18 can't be selected at OLCI, you will need to check in to a different seat and then request a seat change at CheckIn/Bag Drop at the airport.

All PE seats apart from the bulk head rows (row 18) just have the metal fold down foot rest on the seats in front.

The bulk head rows get foot cushions (which are stored in the over-head lockers when not in use)

One row to avoid in Premium on the 346's is the back row as you are sat next to a washroom on both sides of the cabin.

Thanks Simon. The head issues are always unpredictable, aren't they. As long as my "other" seat mate to my left doesn't insist on telling me his/her life's story for 12.5 hours, it'll be OK.

Hi mitchja & MrT, thanks for confirming the foot rests & the OLCI.

Happy flying, everyone!
