just want to get ideas here
we are due to travel to US in 3 weeks for our 2 weeks multicentr holiday booked with TC Signature
we are flying virgin
suddenly my father needs an urgent operation, we hope before we go, but if it is while we are away and anything untoward happens and we need to get back, do we contact TC, Insurance or Virgin, and would there be additinal costs?

Insurance - but i'd check with them first as they MAY now consider it a pre-existing condition.
Virgin have no legal obligation to assist getting you/him home for an operation, so you'd have to change your ticket and contact the agent to do so. There will likely be quite some cost to do that

The same thing happened to us last year, although we had booked with Virgin Holidays.
We did contact the insurance company and were covered by their policy if we needed to change come home early etc, as we had taken out a very comprehensive one in the small print it said if you need to return/cancel due to a close family illness.
In the end we had to return and Virgin got us on the next available flight with no extra cost and managed to get us all the unused part of the holiday expenditure bar one night refunded.Anything else you need or want to know you can pm me. all the best

Was you holiday booked before this news and were you covered by existing same insurance.
You need to describe situation to your insurance company and get their take on situation- NB log the calls and get FULL names of those you spoke to.

thanks
spoke to insurance and the condition was not known about when we took out insurance
just to confirm my father is not coming on the holiday its just my wife daughter and me.
if we had to come end holiday early and come home, Virgin would be best to contact to arrange earlier flights? and insurance to claim for additional and lost costs etc

*Always* contact the insurance company first, otherwise they tend to start using the "previous unauthorised expenditure" card when you go to claim. Once you've spoken with them, they'll tell you whether they will deal with the airline or if they're happy for you to (as is normally the case) - Then you can work with VS to change your flights etc
