Getting an Extra Legroom Aisle Seat.

Hi all.
I was wondering if anyone could answer a couple of questions for me – sorry if this has been covered in previous threads.
I’m flying off to Las Vegas at the end of September and I’ve booked myself an extra legroom seat for both the outbound and return flights. When I review my booking online I’m unable to allocate a seat – which is fair enough as I believe it’s all down to the configuration of the plane which they won’t know until nearer the time. I’ve also read posts on here that, with extra legroom seats, they don’t allow you to select a seat during OLCI as well.
The thing is, I very much prefer an aisle seat - but if they can’t allocate me a seat until I check in at the airport then I’m guessing that there may not be much chance of getting an aisle seat.
So, my questions are:–
1) Has anyone had experience of this i.e. problems (or lack of) specifying a particular extra legroom seat?
2) I appreciate that it’s dependent on the plane configuration but does anyone know roughly how many extra legroom rows they normally have for a LGW to LAS flight?
3) Also, has anyone got any strategic tips for me, which will give me the best possible chance of getting an aisle seat?
Thanks very much for any help you can give me.
Happy travelling.
