V-Flyer

Hi all,

Well, this is my first post on V-Flyer and I have so many questions (and a plea)! I’ll post these all separately but first up is this:

How much would I have to pay to buy 3,000 bonus miles?

The reason I’m asking is that I’ve got a Virgin Credit card which I hope will allow me to build my miles up. To get me started, Virgin / MBNA offered 3,000 bonus miles when I opened the account and made my first purchase. A very useful offer as I’m exclusively a leisure-flyer and so won’t be racking up any business miles (Or to put it another way, VA are unlikely to be offering me a freebie on any inaugural flights anytime soon).

A few months on and these miles were still weren’t showing on my account. I spoke to MBNA this week and owing to some administrative error, the miles weren’t credited. They now say it’s too late but offered me £50 as a ‘gesture of good will’. I’ve turned this down as I’m sure it would cost me more to buy the miles.

What should I be asking for?

3,000 bonus miles would cost you £60. That is £15 per 1,000 miles plus a fixed £15 transaction fee. So the offer is less than you should have received. I'd go back and tell them this they should give £60 as they have messed up - and admitted to it.

There are agents roaming the clubhouse at the moment offering 30,000 miles for new black-card sign ups. If you're going through there, track one down (virgin/black uniform, with a clipboard). That's £140 for 30,000 miles...

Ahhh..., but you have to get in to the CH first of all!

i completed an application in the CH for the white card with 12,000 miles once the card is used for the first time. I believe the black card has an annual fee payable?
