But YET AGAIN... The heading of the column states "TAXES" - not "Virgin's £200+ fuel surcharge". Grrrr.

Agree...
Surely it's about time somewhere like V-Flyer propose a combined response to Virgin on this... Ok we won't alter the cost but at least show it for what it truly is....
.... Maybe there is a "fuel charge on top of this "tax" column charge!!

These sales are an excellent way to use the AmEx upgrade vouchers.

A shame that VS feel they cantake advantage of their customers like this v( v( Very disappointed with the lack of downward movement for their surcharge xx(

IMHO I think we'll start to see more and more dumbing down of mileage needs, as the ratio of the actual costs transfers to fuel surcharge. It encourages more routine use of miles and a chunky bit of revenue for VS.
Expect more mileage sales and less normal fare sales.... My prediction anyway.
Agree with Neil using on base Y seat even with sale, is still poor value.. The Amex route the best way to use...

That's absolutely stonking value if you use it with a PE AMEX upgrade.

Hi All,
Quick Question.
can you upgrade reward sale tickets to PE using miles (depending on availability) or are they not upgradeable?
thanks for your help

Yes, you can, but you will still have to 'pay with miles' the difference between the amount of miles you paid for your economy reward and the current PE mile reward amount.

You can do - but not using the amount of miles that'd be required to upgrade a revenue fare (eg. 20,000 return) - it'd be the difference between the EC miles ticket and a PE miles ticket - so for a trip to NYC it'd be 37,500 extra miles round trip with the current sale fares (+the extra taxes & charges)

Looks like someOne reads either here or FB, they've amended the column heading...
Also interesting to see that Caribbean routes cost less in Surcharges etc than NYC.... the surcharge is reflective of actual fuel costs/ tax is in theory more to the caribbean...? Profiteering on popular route perchance ??

Hi all
This might be a stupid question but.... If I wanted to book some seats using my Amex premium upgrade vouchers and the sale fares, do I need to make sure there is room in economy AND premium economy or just PE?
Thank you!
Ben

Very true but only if you are lucky enough to have a couple of AmEx upgrade vouchers sitting in your FC account n(

Hi everyone,
With regard to the Amex upgrades, can we use them with this sale? The t&c's at the bottom of my email state:
"8. Credit card upgrades cannot be applied to this offer."
Is that referring to something else? Has anyone successfully used the AMEX vouchers for this sale? Would love to use mine if I can.

You certainly could on the last Econ reward sale, because I did it myself. Maybe they have decided to stop it from now on?

Was this the Y econ reward sale around Sep/Oct last year?
I think they are stopping people using the AMEX PE upgrade vouchers in conjunction with economy reward sales. They had the same T&C stopping them being used back in Feb on the 2 for 1 economy sale.
This totally devalues the benefit of the AMEX Upgrade vouchers and makes them pretty much worthless, if this is the case going forward.

Surely that cannot be true

! I've used the AmEx voucher once in the past and was hoping to try to do it again - if the darn voucher hadn't expired yesterday ii) ii)

Oh for the good old days when a reward fare was something to aim for.
I find the government APD annoying but the fuel surcharge is simply sickening. It has been consistent or rising ever since it was introduced. Its a great way to rip off customers.
At least petrol prices fluctuate but this airline fuel surcharge never does and never will, simply because they can and do get away with this excessive charge month after month v( v(

I've been on the Phone to FC and there is no problem using the Amex upgrade voucher, I have flights on hold as we speak. However, the £410 each in 'tax' is beyond a joke.
