V-Flyer

Looking at the status updates page it appears G-VROM went tech at UVF last night, also affecting the planned pick up from BGI.

What happens when an aircraft goes tech at somewhere as remote as UVF? VS is the only airline that flies 744's there and only 3 times a week so I imagine the parts room isn't particularly well stocked! Would Boeing fly a part in from the US or would it be down to VS to source?

This happened to us in ANU in December 2007.

We had to wait for a wheel and an engineer to be flown in on the BA flight the next day.

We were due to take off at about 6-7pm (I can't remember the exact time) when we over shot the turning circle which resulted in the front wheel being on the grass.

We were all taken off the plane back to the airport, left there for 3 hours before VS decided they'd over night us without our luggage. It was midnight before we got to our hotel (not where we had our hols but was nice all the same, glad we were in PE as we got better hotels that ECO passengers). Luggage arrived with us by morning.

We were then told by the rep who was doing the welcome meeting that they were flying in a wheel and engineer and there was a pilot on board our flight on holiday who'd be flying us back instead of the one who overshot the runway.

We had all day in resort (with food, drinks, and a room) before being collected at 6pm. Didn't take off to midnight due to disruptive passengers being offloaded as they were drunk.

Anyway thats my experience, it was the first time I've ever packed knickers in my hand luggage but I do everytime now.

According to Virgin's website it never made it to UVF yesterday. Is due to leave from BGI for UVF at 12.40 local time today.

Ah yes, I guess they must be flying the part out on the 29 today then.

I had an overnighter too in 2010. I was due to leave LAS when the staff announced that a replacement part was required. They tried to see if they could acquire the part from LAX, but to no avail. Then they decided to postpone the flight until the next day and put us all up in the Treasure Island hotel. Cue a massive cheer! Well done Virgin for that.

The part was then sent over with the next day's VS43 and our cancelled VS44 flight re-numbered to VS144. I believe the part was for one of the engines. That is what they seemed to be fiddling around with anyway. I found it surprising though, that there was no replacement part for a B747, being in the US and all.

If it's an engine problem then I guess it depends which engine option is fitted to the a/c and who the engine supplier is.
