V-Flyer

Last time we flew on a 747 out of LHR we had the "new" V:Port system to JFK. This was 2004!
Since then I've been reduced to Odyssey & Nova out of LGW on the LAS flights ii) .

Has V:Port been updated or improved since then. For the first time we are taking our girls abroad (4&6) What are the games like, up-to-date or circa 2003 technology??

Just wondering if V:Port has evolved?

V-Port is the same really.
Obviously JAM is the IFE for the future, but they aren't going retrofit it to the LHR fleet as the majority of the a/c are being replaced (A346's) and the new A333's and Dreamliners (when they finally enter the fleet) will have JAM.

But is V:Port the same as it was 8/9 years ago. I know they can obviously update the movie/music content, but have they update games, firmware to make it run better???

Ha ha ha, ok I must confess not something that I would usually think about. Main question these days is will it actually work??

The firmware, def have to have been - if not that is just sad, and may explain the constant crashes... As for the games, they have added new ones, not sure if they have taken any off though - guess they would have to in order to make space for the new.. Not sure on that one sorry ii)

If its often going tech witha 4&6 yr old I think the stress would finish me off! They are looking excitedly forward to it! They'll be climbing the walls on a 9hr flight!!

VPort is just fine, yes it can go tech like any airline's IFE can, often if it does it's restricted to a few seats but generally I find it reliable. There are rare reports of VPort failing for the whole plane for the duration of a flight (I recall a TR from LAX where this happened). But that's rare - to form your own view scan through recent VS5/6 TRs.

But really, if it's that important that you risk rigor mortis, plan ahead, pack an iPad, take games .

V:Port is due a graphical refresh in the coming months

The *system* itself is fine.

The CONTENT, however, is woeful. TV programmes (only 1 episode of many) from a decade ago. Destination guides from the same era. Errgghhh.

I no longer even turn my system on - I wonder if I could reclaim my iTunes movie/TV programme downloads back from VS.

V:Port has the same content as Jam, most of which is bang up to date (when it comes to movies anyway).

You can check some of the content on the VS website.

Didn't mention movies

Actually, the movies at least DO update - but very slowly, maybe 5-8 a month. If you're onboard more than two sectors a month, it can get VERY dry (but appreciate that's not "normal" for most people on the plane).

The TV selection, however, is shocking.

I've avoided certain films in the cinema a few months back, hoping I might get them on my next flight in November lol ):

Was surprised when I first used JAM last month - thought that the opportunity would've been taken to expand on certainly the TV selections (entire series etc. and bigger choice) - seems like a bit of a missed opportunity
