PE meal service on VS 9 yesterday

After a few Newark trips I was back on VS9 yesterday in PE and sampled the new PE meals service.

I thought it was very good actually. Yes the paper cup is a change, but you do end up with more. However the tray cloth and linen napkin are welcome additions, as are the salt/pepper shakers. The meal itself was very good. Yes the Cheese and onion sandwiches are still there later in the flight with the scone replaced with a cupcake.

Crew were excellent - couldn't be more helpful.

Not sure if this is a new thing, or just something that that particular person thought she'd tell us - but as we were taxiing to the runway at Heathrow there was the usual announcement about the number of passengers on board (311), and crew etc, but this time the name of the aircraft was announced, Sleeping Beauty, as well as today's take off speed- around 175 mph and take off weight, which I think was around 228 metric tonnes.

Not heard that before, but nice touch.

I think it is just dependant on the crew. Sometimes we have no no information at all, other times we have had loads like you got yesterday and many variations in between.

You should always hear the number of Crew and passengers on board as this is part of the PA when the doors close. Any other info is the personal touch of the FSM

On my recent flights to SFO and ex-YVR we were given the name of the plane. Unfortunately the FSM gave the wrong name of the the plane to SFO calling G-VHOT Hot Lips instead of Tubular Belle :0

Well whoever the FSM was on Monday's VS009 - very nice touch I thought.

To anser the question about the PE meal choice I happen to have kept the menu so here goes:-

Starter
Smoked salmon with creme fraich and rocket leaves

Main Course

Lasagne al forno
with Bolognese and Mornay sauce, mozzarella chese and sauteed mushrooms

Diced Chicken breast
with creamy mushroom and red pepper sauce, broccoli mashed potatoes and carrots

Thai green vegetable curry with Sticky rice

Choive of bread rolls

Desert
Chewy Belgian chocolate cake

High Tea
Mixed cheese and red onion finger sandwiches on white bread
Great British Cupcake
Tea or Coffee

There was also the ice cream round of Vanilla or Strawberry, though this time were slighly less frozen than usual so no ice picks needed to crack them open

So the mushrooms and smoked salmon are still in force...what a shame, surely it's time for a change (hate mushrooms and raw salmon) ?|

Vegetable Curry??

Or would you argue that a mushroom is a vegetable as opposed to a fungi :P and thus make a surprise appearance in the vegetarian option.. :D

Even in UC the other day the 'chicken with gnocchi, spinach and a cream sauce' appeared complete with a load of mushrooms that weren't so much as mentioned on the menu?!

Ah, I was on the VS 9 on 3rd of September as well. I did think it was a nice touch being told that we were on Sleeping Beauty. The new UC amenity kit is a bit more substantial than the previous black shoe bag, but could use a bit more pimping up.
