Clubhouse Tips

Is it considered "good form" to tip in the clubhouse ?

Is it for treatments only ?

First experience in a couple of hours so would like to go per-armed !

YMMV but...

Personally... I tend to tip as I do in the real world - 15-20%. So I leave a note in the salon/spa and big coins if I sat down to eat. Others feel it is unnecessary,

If you expect to be a CH regular then tipping will presdipose people who recognise you to go above and beyond - human nature and all that. If you don't expect to return in the foreseeable future than it's all about karma ;)

Sorry, but dont see the need for the previous comment about ymmv.

Asked a sensible question, as a rule in life I life I tend to research things before I do them and didn't want to put anyone in an awkward position. I have been to places before where tipping is frowned upon and I didn't want to get the staff in trouble as I didn't know. Some people in life care about others apart from themselves.

Whether this becomes regular or not will depend on VS, I have stated before this is my first VS experience as I usually fly BA. I have never felt the need to tip on BA.

Whilst I appreciate the comment on tipping, if you don't like it, don't read it !

I have seen staff at the CH in LHR getting "told off" for taking a tip and then they returned it to the customer and said that she was very gratefull but "Virgin Atlantic staff are not allowed to accept tips". But I have also read on here that some do it regularly.

I've never had a treatment, but I've certainly tipped the shoe shine gentleman and left coinage for the food/drink waiters (although not at the bar, that's just too American, even for me...).

By the way, what's the hangup on this YMMV thing anyway, given that my understanding of the term is along the lines of 'may work differently for you...'. Does it have another, darker definition I've not come across before?!

YMMV = Your mileage may vary. Basically, this is not a hard-and-fast rule, and your experience may be different.

Well, I am very confident Decker meant Your Mileage May Vary and not You Make Me Vomit. YMMV (mileage one) is quite a common term used on here and fits the response much better than the one you thought.

Seems a simple misunderstanding.

Never actually come across the 2G1C version of YMMV before. Still thanks for the clarification. Neil is correct ;)

Google... YMMV Mileage 3.5 million+. YMMV Vomit 100K+. Seems kind of specialist.

A new experience perhaps :0 .

As to the OP, my suggestion is this, if you tip your beauty / spa / hair / waxing / other therapist normally then why change? If you're a miser and never tip, why change?

Hamster, I've been tipping for years and years and have never heard of that clubhouse rule.

Not a miser by any means, however I only tip if someone is above the norm I don't expect a tip for doing my job !

I personally had no idea what YMMV meant... still don't :#

I have not tipped in any of the CH yet, then again to get a tip out of me people have to go beyond the expected level of service. They get a wage for their work and we pay for it whether it is in paid access to the lounge, the Upper Class fare or being AU (thus spending a lot of money with VS in the first place)

That being said, if they do an awesome job, frequent traveller or not. I say tip them.

Enjoy the CH y)

Thanks Joey! Seems like we are on the same page.

If someone is good, I tip, if they are going through the motions then why should I ? That said all the staff this morning have been very good :)
