V-Flyer

I nearly always try to fly on a single PNR but for various reasons, including the need to book a couple of Gs at 330 days out, I will not be doing so in a forthcoming MIA-LHR-BHD routing.
Back in the day, VS would check luggage through to Belfast with BD when I had a boarding card for the second sector without a quibble, whether on a single or separate PNRs. Interestingly and annoyingly, BD were often reluctant to do this outbound even on a single PNR.
I have yet to book the LHR-BHD sector which will now be with BA or possibly Aer Lingus. If my bags are straight through then I can make use of Revivals which is a great bonus but if not I will have to wait for bags and leave time for recheck in. As this increases the time to transfer I may have to consider a later connection as I won't have the protection of a single PNR.
Anyone had experience of trying to interline bags from VS to BA on separate tickets?

Did it last month.
The route was:

DUR/JNB South African Airways
JNB/LHR Virgin Atlantic
LHR/MAN BA

All on separate PNR's

All checked by a great SAA agent.

Maybe they did this because SAA and VS have interline agreements, and the last leg wasn't a hassle to do....its a regular occurence when I do this route, very convenient and , as you say, saves having to re-check and more "up time" for revivals.

We usually do MCO to LGW with VS followed on by LGW to EDI with BA and it's almost impossible to check your bags straight through from MCO to EDI.

Nothing is impossible but unless you get a really great agent like Paul had, I fear you might struggle.

Must admit that the SAA agents in Durban are always friendly and helpful...unless its my English charm that gets the result .oo err!.

Surely if you're on the same PNR/ticket then the bags must be checked through?

Didn't always happen BD to VS. on one occasion I had booked via the Silver line for my flight and a couple of weeks later for my mother who decided to go out with me to meet my sister.
Apparently, when checking in together, my ticket was good enough to interline and hers wasn't.
Strange, I had booked both tickets in the same way so couldn't explain why. Booking agents had obviously something differently. Didnt matter really as i was travelling UC so had the agent book all the bags to me to save waiting for bags to recheck at LHR.

My experience has been the when I have commenced a journey at a station prior to my VS departure e.g. DUR-JNB-LHR-ORK or GSO-EWR-LHR-ORK I have been able to interline my bags all the way to Cork. However if my first point of departure has been with VS then it has been no dice. The only exception has been from NRT and then they only did it because the flight was seriously delayed and cut into my connecting time plus the fact I was Gold. It necessitated a phone call to VS to grant permission
