I was welcomed into the afternoon on this fine Friday by an interesting email from VS..

Interesting. UA has something similar which I have used in the past.

The quoted rate for Miami suggests this is basically another way of buying miles, at more or less the same rates. Not sure how good a deal that is?

I see you can boost a mileage upgrade fare -- wonder if that will post without a call to FC?

They seem to mention tripling the miles earned but give an example with double and no mention of how you triple.

For 2x, it is almost the same rate as buying miles (although I assume no limit on how many you can buy during the year). For 3x, potentially interesting.

Another way to buy miles at a price

. Miles purchased via the Miles Booster Programme will be priced as follows:
a. British Pound Sterling: £0.015 per mile, plus an additional £15.00 transaction fee per purchase
b. U.S. Dollars: $0.025 per mile, plus an additional $25.00 transaction fee per purchase.

It's obviously up to you if you want to either double or treble the base miles.

The Miles Booster Programme offers customers the ability to double (2x) or triple (3x) the base Miles earned on a flight.

The added extra is that there is no upper limit on how many you can buy

22. Miles earned via Miles Booster Programme purchase(s) do not count toward the 30,000 Mile limit associated with Buy Miles and Gift Miles programs. There is no limit to the number of Miles that a Member can earn via purchase(s) of Miles Booster.

As blindman says, it's just an alternative way to buy miles at the same rate as the existing "Buy Miles" scheme - 1.5p per mile (plus a £15 fee per transaction).

There is no financial benefit to trebling rather than doubling - you still pay 1.5p per mile.

I guess it's useful for those who really want to rack up the miles and are constrained by the "Buy Miles" 30,000 annual limit but for most people it's nothing special. They're certainly not giving anything away.

Just a way for VS to make a bit more money and have even more miles floating around in the ether (and thus creating even more demand for reward seats).

At the same cost as buying miles, it's really not economical. 1.5p a mile is too much to justify. Only use is if you MUST have more miles and 30,000 buy miles limit is reached.

Did they make a mistake in the email they sent me?
In the terms and conditions it says

"1. Miles are priced at £0.0015/$0.025 per mile and are subject to a £15/$25 transaction fee per purchase."

Bt the calculation they've done in the example is based on the price being 0.015£ per mile.

Looks like VS IT have combined with the marketing team to really confuse things.
On the email invitation to boost miles, the rate is calculated at 1.5p per mile. The emailed T's & C's state the cost is 0.15 p per mile. That's 1/10th. of the example rate.

The web site T's &c's state 1.5 p per mile...both plus the £15 fee.

I'm on hold now to see if I can get another 12,262 miles from my next 601/602 trip...(including the 1000 miles bonus) the grand total should be £31.89 per the email T's &C's! ) if this works its a good deal )

Oh well...after a long conversation with a great lady supervisor, it has been agreed that the e mail purchase miles rate is a mistake on their part.

In true V - Flyer spirit, I did try to get the bargain but it isn't happening.

There isn't anything anyone can do about it in a legal sense either as, no contract has been entered into (no money has changed hands).

A customer cannot force a seller to sell something at a price that the seller doesn't agree to. There has to be a mutual agreement between customer and seller on price, even though an item is advertised at a certain price, the seller doesn't have to agree to it, especially as it is a genuine mistake.

Maybe they might come up with a few miles to say "sorry" as a goodwill gesture..we'll see.

In that case VS needs to resend an accurate email with the correct details clearly stated in it otherwise it could be accused of sharp practice.
