Hi all ,just phoned up VH and got aprice to upgrade from PE to UC on the outbound of about £900 each which I didn't think was too bad.
There are 15 UC seats left ,I know it's hard to say but do fellow v flyers think this price is likely to go up,down or remain the same?

I don't feel that there is any point in upgrading, I'm sure that PE is just as good value for you and maybe you could save the £900 for other things (kids) oh and spending money!

I agree that ¢900 is a lot for one person one way upgrade for a daytime flight that is only 7 hours.
Why not upgrade your fare to an upgradable with miles fare and the use miles ?

IIRC VH have fixed prices for upgrades, so it is probably unlikely that the price will change regardless of how many seats are unsold.

Unfortunately I'm still quite new to virgin travel so I haven't got any miles to cash in with.

You can't use miles to upgrade flights booked with VH.

When I booked to Miami earlier this year, the upgrade price was £900, so I decided to give it a miss n(

Regular checking and one day I found it had gone down by half, so without consulting Mrs Buns, (fatal in some instances I know) booked the upgrade

I would not pay £900 to upgrade

It was about a month out, but could have been at the same time VS put up a quick sale - only because BA did :w

£900 per person one way seems a lot to me, I think for a shortish day flight it isn't worth that amount of money IMO.

Haven't you already paid for lounge access?? That plus the PE seats are good for the day flight into NYC. As someone else said it is less than 7hrs... easy.

I would say save the money for a good night out or two and some shopping. y)

Yes,Emily is my eldest burden who proceeded to tell her mum what I had posted so any surprise is well and truly spoilt!
I have already paid for CH so that would be money wasted as I don't suppose I would get it back.
I think the problem is I'm so desperate to fly UC I'm trying to justify things to myself when in reality it prob isn't worth the money.
On reflection all your views have probably made me realise I'm better off saving the money for the trip itself so I thank you all

You can ask at LHR UC Sales when you arrive, they seem to have a sheet of fixed prices for all flights assuming there's availability.

Have you got access to your flights through the Virgin Atlantic website? You could then check to see what the upgrade price is here and whether this changes.

As other have said, £900 is a lot per person for a one-way upgrade. When the last VS Upper Class sale was on, our upgrade from PE to UC was £400 (from a K to a Z).

If you do upgrade, either in advance or on the day, and therefore don't need the lounge pass that you have already pass, I think that this is refunable from VH.

You won't see the cabin upgrade options in your VS booking for flights booked by VH.

Your only option is to either upgrade direct with VH or take a gamble and wait and upgrade directly with VS once you get to the airport on the day you fly.

Not sure if this is relevant but I upgraded from a K code (Premium Economy) to a G (Upper Class) LGW-MCO for £186 plus 12,500 miles. £900 does seem steep and as others have said, £900 is a lovely "bonus" for when you are out in NY.

Would not pay 900. You can drink enough in the lounge to make the cabin irrelevant for the next 7 hours, PE will do quite nicely

Thought once you paid balance you can get the locater number from VH

I'm pretty sure even with the locator number you can't amend or upgrade the booking without going back through VH

You can still access your booking, it just that you will never see the upgrade options in your online VS booking with VS flights booked via VH.

You and even VS themselves cannot do anything with VS flights booked via VH. Only VH can do amendments and upgrades.

The only exception to this is at the airport on the day you fly as VS can then process paid upgrades.

For example the other week I needed to add a redress number to my VS booking made via VH. I spoke to VS first, as soon they they saw the booking had been made my VH, they wouldn't do anything and told me to contact VH.

Personally I think £900 from PE to UC is silly money. If that were the return upgrade cost then it would be more interesting, although for such a short flight I really don't think it's good value for money.

Well as the general opinion is not to upgrade I think I will save the money for the trip although who knows what will happen at the check in desk when we get to LHR.
