San Francisco - Nice restaurant that's kid friendly

Hi all

Now I have booked flights for our trip to LAX/OGG/SFO next year I am trying to work out some sort of itinerary and specifically need help with the last bit of our trip in SFO.
We will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary whilst in SFO and would like to go to a nice restaurant for lunch or an early dinner. We will have our then 5 year old with us so it needs to be fairly kid friendly.
Can anyone recommend anywhere, a nice view would be a bonus :)
I have not booked our hotel yet but would imagine we will be in the Fishermans Wharf area but happy to travel elsewhere in the city.

Thanks
L2H

Firstly presonally Id avoid staying in the FW area.

I'd suggest the mccormacks and schmutters (? Spelling!) it is near FW at ghiradeli square and has the feel of the titanic about it and has good views over the bay. Not sure how child friendly it is though !

If you like seafood at a decent prize and don't mind gimmicks, there is always Bubba Gumps. Not really an upmarket restaurants but very child friendly and if you like Forrest Gump, can be good fun!

There is a Hard Rock Cafe there as well.

We also tried the Fog Harbor Fish House which wasn't too bad.

There is a nice place for breakfast called the Hollywood Cafe too.

Tontybear - why would you avoid FW ? We stayed there when on our honeymoon before flying to Oahu. The Holiday Inn was OK, and a good location for Pier 39, trolley, Alacatraz etc
Where would you recommend instead ?

Waatp - have been to Bubba Gumps in Orlando and Chicago. Great food but I think we wanted somewhere a bit more special, although maybe kid friendly and special do not mix ???

Thanks for all the ideas both :)

Scomas. Classic old Italian seafood restaurant that is a little hidden gem, ie, is not amongst the zillions of tourists that just do Pier 39, here:http://www.scomas.com/

I think most restaurants will be child friendly, especially as I imagine you would be eating in the earlier part of the evening rather than later.

A great place for breakfast is Dottie's True Blue Cafe

I really like Kokkari. A five year old would be no problem in early evening.

The restaurants down FW are higher priced lower quality one's aimed at the thousands of tourists trolling past their doors every day. I can completely see why someone would say avoid it for going to a nice restaurant.

Of course visiting it for other purposes, Alcatraz, sealions etc is fair enough, but the idea that everything to be visited in SF is in FW, well, that's usually an opinion of someone who's only visited once...

Thanks all !! Looks like we are sorted for Breakfast, lunch and an early dinner :)
Yes, I can see that FW is touristy and not great value and we did spend a fair amount of time last visit exploring the rest of the city. I think as it's our sons first visit FW will do this time, especially as our stopver is only 2 nights.
I'm sure we will return again :)

As a SFO local, I should caveat the recommendation for Dottie's. It's awesome, but it's in a very bad neighborhood, so please be aware of your surroundings as you get in and out of it.

This is one of SF's mysteries: bad neighborhoods can be only one or two city blocks in size and can be adjacent to very good neighborhoods.

As a frequent visitor to sfo, sometimes with kids sometimes without, I have to say that for child friendliness the Rainforest Cafe is fantastic, and can be very engaging for the little'uns. Obviously its not fine dining, but if you're ok with that it can be a very pleasant experience.
