Combi Reward tickets

Hi,
Just thought I would share my recent experience of booking this type of ticket, as there was some confusion when I called about whether or not you can use miles to upgrade the published fare part of it. Apparently staff have been told you can't do this, but T&C's 4.5(m) says you can, so long as you have bought one of the qualifying ticket classes for upgrading with miles.

After I referred the (very helpful) call handler to the T&C's, she called through to another department and after some discussion, they agreed you can use miles to upgrade the purchased fare, just not the reward fare.

With the reward seat sale on, this ticket made the most of mine and my boyfriend's miles, and we have bought two tickets to NYC outbound in premium economy and then an L class economy on the return which we upgraded to upper. This cost us £666 each + 38,344 miles, which I thought was a bargain!!

Hope this may be of help to someone - as we had limited miles because we're not frequent flyers, this was a really good ticket type for us.

Just for clarity:
You bought outbound at cheapest published PE fare and the inbound as an L, then were allowed to UG the return to UC with miles.. Is this correct?

Sorry, no, outbound was a PE reward fare (P class) which was in the reward seat sale going on, so 18,344 one way and then combined that with an economy L class fare for the inbound, which we then used 20,000 miles to upgrade to an upper G class. Of the £666, £191 was the fare and the rest was taxes, etc.
