Pre booking Exit Row seats in PE

Morning all,

I was wondering if you can pre book the very limited Exit Row seats 28 A+C on an LHR 744, and if so is there a charge.

The VA website indicates that you can pre book in Y for £75 per person per leg, but whenever I have previously flown in PE and asked at the Airport for Exit Rows there has never been a charge but when in Y there has always been a charge.

Thanks in advance for your help.

There are no charges for PE exit rows, but they cannot be booked in advance.

Thanks for that.
I'll be sure to get to the Airport for when checkin opens up, and then hope I can secure the return ones during checkin at AKL.

This seems to be something of a dark art. As in my experience (with row 18 on the A340's) the check in staff often come up with numerous reasons why they can't be allocated to us.

For example, I've been told that they're "reserved" before. Upon further questioning the agent muttered something about a baby. However on boarding there was no baby there at all, just a bunch of adults.

Don't UC pax get bumped to these is Upper is full, maybe this was a downgrade? Suspect the former suggestion more likely though.

I mentioned in TR sometime ago that upon check-in at SFO, when I asked for the exit, I was told they were reserved for their most frequent fliers...after I replied "does that include me as a Au card holder?" she released the seat and gave it to me. Chap next to me said he simply asked for it as he was tall and was given it. So, who knows?!

I've railed about this before because it's actually the one thing that irritates me most about VS. I too have had the "oh they're already gone" - when first to check in or noticed someone checking in behind me had them / "pre-reserved" - erm how! - "held back for infants" - no infants in sight ... etc. stories. It is the darkest of VS's arts and the most annoying one.

An Au or above, flying on a £2,300 W fare to say New York should have preference for these seats and since airlines the world over can figure this out on their web sites, I don't see why VS can't. Mind you, there's always VS's IT team to contend with ): .
