Damaged Lost Luggage

VS lost my luggage for several days last year and the when returned was damaged
After protracted emails and correspondence included photos of the damage I lost the will to continue and gave up and scrapped the luggage and bought new ones.
I was flying upper class but no one cared and I was very disappointed with both customer service and lost baggage.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Last year?? How long have you been fighting for some form of compensation? Where was your case coming from? and supposed to be?

From my experiences.. How long have you got :P

I travel through the US a fair amount and the TSA have kindly seen the need to; break open locks/cut cases/hit them a few times it appears, on several occasions. v( v(

I have always notified VS of the damage and get the usual apologies and form to fill out. Usually get a couple of thousand miles to 'compensate' me for the loss (even though not technically their fault)

I would say good customer service as it is the TSA that evidently have a vendetta against me and VS are picking up the slack y)

Joey did you fit TSA approved locks? If not then damage done during screening in the US is at your risk.

Joey

Definitely only use TSA approved locks if you're flying to/via the US otherwise they'll just break your case open.

I use a yellow cable tie on the outer case cover zips to deter casual pilfering and give me a heads up if the TSA have been inside; on my most recent trip I notice that the TSA card that is left inside the case now carries a date/time stamp of the inspection.

First time around no don't think they were... rookie error I know ii)

From then on though they were, TSA have still seen the need to cut them on occasion.. evidently it is less effort to cut a metal lock than use their special key.

Worst damage so far has been when they saw fit to cut through the zips in the case.. not just the locking mechanism :0 :0 Funny thing is they taped it up with some of that hazardous material tape... caused quite a mixed emotion between horror and humour when I dragged it to the VS damaged luggage desk.

Nerf herders :P

I never bother locking luggage anyway. If they want what's inside the cruddy luggage locks won't stop them.

I agree. Haven't locked our luggage for years now, we don't put anything valuable in our hold cases, if they end up taking some of my clothes means I can go buy some more :D

And because I have no life tonight, I stumbled across this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOZ3pkp-QPQ which is an advert for a product but shows one reason why I don't bother.

Agree with a few others here.
I haven't locked my hold baggage for years. This is one of the reasons I pay the extra on my internal US flights to get early boarding, extra leg room seats, you get on first and have room in the overhead bins for your carry-on!!
