..and for those of us who have to phone up VS FC line to book their tickets in flexible classes and then upgrade with miles as the website cannot do two things at once???

Good prize though Pete, top notch negotiating with Crawley Towers ^)

Is one workaround to phone them to check G availability then book the flight online while they're still on the phone?
Haven't seen this link mentioned in a while, and not sure if it still works, but it's in the Flying Club area of the VS still and supposedly lets you book a specific class.

Oh yeh, you can do one but not the other
Way round it as suggested is to find the reward availability, give VS a call, whack the reward seat on reserve (G or P

), book the full fare ECO or PE through the website and then call back.... my thats a lot of phone calls for an "In the face of the ordinary" website ii)
Forgive me people, I am being a tad flippant today... perhaps it was all that wine with lunch :w

Ah yes, but what if you're already qualified for gold next year as well

Seriously, very nice prize though, even if it won't really do anything for me personally.

Well done Pete, nice to see some VS enticements for many die-hards.
Quite disappointed with some reaction to this, suppose you can't please everyone.
VS are missing a trick in keeping the VF community enticed..
Well done.

I'm guessing 'extended by a year' means just that.

Just to add my y) to Pete for organising this.
It's a really good prize for VS to offer and a really good opportunity for a lucky VF member to get gold when it would normally be out of their reach, especially if not a regular UC traveller, the lounge access alone is a great benefit.

Slightly o/t but why more than one call? Ring, ask for the options to upgrade from Economy / PE to Upper for your range of dates , decide yay or nay, pay for base ticket and have miles deducted at the same time. Least ways that's how I did it a couple of months back; took about 15 mins.
That's not to say the web experience isn't poor, of course....

But that wouldn't allow you to book via the above link to enter the (rather excellent) competition

Needless to say, booking yourself onto the MAN-LHR inaugural is a perfectly valid flight. As if you needed an excuse to join the V-Flyer crew with their early-morning hangovers...

While I can't go on the inaugural :# I take it that any other MAN-LHR flight is OK - or indeed any flight within the UK?
