Is it possible to secure upgrades from economy to premium economy with Virgin Atlantic at the airport using flying club miles?
We have booked for Orlando in August and normally we pay cash at the desk to upgrade but I do have a clutch of miles now so wondered if they could be used for some or all of our upgrades?
many thanks

If there are reward seats in PE available then in theory yes, but you'd need to pay to get your economy ticket to a fare class that can be upgraded with miles, so it may not be practical

I have found non-UK check-in desks more helpful with regard to this especially USA airports.
If seats are available (and they do not need to be mileage seats) then you need to pay tax/fuel charge and they can deduct the miles and upgrade you.
However, if you are fobbed off that it will be done at the gate usually means forget it as they are not generally able to collect tax/fuel.

thanks for the replies...
Economy tickets were £550 each return which is roughly what I usually pay.
The past 3 years at Manchester airport checkin I've always asked to upgrade to PE and paid exactly £199 per person for the flight to Orlando.
In Orlando its usually about £180 per person to upgrade flight home.
I've got a bunch of airmiles so might just ask if I can use all or some of them towards the cost.
